Now You Can Volunteer to Walk Shelter Dogs and Play Pokémon Go At the Same Time
If you haven’t started playing the Pokémon Go smartphone game yet, this news might just be your motivation to jump on the bandwagon: an animal shelter in Muncie, Indiana, has been encouraging community members to help walk adoptable dogs while they’re out hunting for Pokémon. It’s a win-win situation—the dogs get more exercise, and you can get more eggs in the game to incubate and hatch the longer you walk.
Since its release, the Pokémon Go app has encouraged users to get outside and move, but now businesses and charities are seeing the app’s potential to interact more with their communities. Charity Miles, a social goodness app that partners with charities, created a challenge tied to the game where users can earn money for their preferred charity while tracking their distance traveled throughout the day via the Charity Miles app.
Pokémon Go may become only be a fad to remember from 2016, but if you’re feeling inspired, you can make the most of it by finding ways to incorporate the game into your community life.
