Apple will compensate

Four years later, the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) won the lawsuit. The university alleges that Apple and their chip provider Broadcom have breached four patents for data exchange over wireless Wi-Fi.

According to the judgment, the two companies will give Caltech $ 1 million in compensation. Of this, Apple will give $ 10 million. And Broadcom will have to pay $ 20 million. If there was an agreement between the companies in the year 20, it is estimated that the amount of compensation would have been determined on the basis of such estimates as royalty.

According to Caltech data, the royalty for the patent of the university's 12.5N and 1.5AC Wi-Fi chip is $ 5 per cent for Apple's device. And 25 cents per machine could be found near Broadcom.

However, Caltech's inventors did not initially want to use this technology for precise Wi-Fi data exchange. At the beginning of the case, Apple argued, they used Broadcom's existing Wi-Fi chip, and they did not create any patent ownership of the technology. As a result, they should not be held responsible for this. However, one judge said such an argument was not correct. Now to see if Caltech makes such a case against other companies producing machines using the same technology.

Broadcom just signed a $ 1.5 billion deal to provide Apple with wireless chips for the next three-and-a-half years.
