I had not heard that before...I wonder how many other times something like that has happened that we just don't know about because they would be too afraid to say anything!

Probably often, but some of it is because they do not know the Bible well enough to actually recognize that they have found a Bible story. :(
IF the simply used The Bible as a Historical Text, they would be doing a lot better, wise fools for certain!
