On April 6, 2009, a deadly earthquake of a 6.3. magnitude hit the Abruzzo Region of Italy. The city of L'Aquila suffered heavily from the impact. 309 people died and the city was left devastated. The earthquake damaged nearly 10,000 buildings causing the collapse of several buildings.
308 people were killed by the earthquake, and approximately 1,500 people were injured. Around 65,000 people were made homeless and were forced to relocate.
The government made promises that the reconstruction would be handled quickly. However even nine years later the city remains in a state of total disorder and L'Aquila feels like a Ghost City.
Political corruption and carelessness had led to multiple criminal convictions and mismanagement of public funds. The reconstruction effort slowly crawls along.
To support and revibrate the city the Quinta Giusta Association was born as a cultural idea in September 2014.
The idea of the association was born after having contributed to the preview of the Ferrara Buskers Festival on August 21, 2014 in L'Aquila.
Their idea was to bring life back to the city. Life through Art, music, theater and everything that they would like to see in L'Aquila.
I was touched, shocked and moved by what this city has had to experience.
Haunting images @lalalopoberlin.
We also posted about our experience in L'Aquila a few years ago and made this video. The person who filmed it was really great! :D https://steemit.com/music/@thetroublenotes/all-about-silence-a-meloncholic-view-into-the-heart-of-l-aquila
