BANDA ACEH - Bank Indonesia Building (BI) is one of the remaining Dutch heritage buildings in Banda Aceh. The building works by architects Vermont Cuypers and Hulswit was completed in 1918, during the reign of the Dutch East Indies.
Formerly this building was De Javasche Bank building, the name before it was changed to Bank Indonesia. The building is located on Jalan Cut Mutia was closed in 1942, when Japan came to power. After the army of Dai Nippon left and Indonesia proclaimed its independence, the new building was reopened in 1964.
When the tsunami hit Aceh in December 2004, the old building was also affected. Although not badly damaged, the building can not be used.
Now the building is almost the same architecture in several other cities in Indonesia is already operating again beautify the face of the city of Banda Aceh.
