Architecture Thesis
I've posted twice here and here about my architecture thesis project. The other two posts covered the crazy initial concept sketches from when I was developing the early ideas. The second post covered the Hudson Yards development and the issue of population density versus open space and park space. This issue was very interesting to me as I was primarily interested in designing landscapes and skyscrapers and even better, skyscrapers+landscapes at the same time.
The Image Production Process
I produced a series of final images displaying the final building design. These were created by doing a mixed-media design process. I built a 3d model in Rhino of the entire building as it fit into Manhattan. Then I would export the model into 2d vector lines and import the file into Illustrator. After importing, I would style the lines and adjust the thicknesses and the colors. I rendered the 3d model in Rhino so that it would look relatively realistic with lighting and shadows. Then in Photoshop I'd combine the vector lines and rendering together. I'd photocollage other images into the file and then print the files on large 40"x30" watercolor paper. Once the print was dry I'd apply actual watercolor, pencil and pen to the drawings. Below is the final result.
Each of these images took countless hours to produce, not to mention the time to actual design the building itself. I created a series of diagrams documenting the actual design process, which I'd love to share. I'm sure this whole building design looks very crazy and chaotic, but there was actual a very intentional design process and strategy involved. I still really like the concept of the entire design and I'd actually like to recreate the model and make more realistic images rather than these, which were more artistic and conceptual. I have all of the originals in my apartment in a folder. I'd like to eventually frame them hang them when I have more space in the future. Hope you enjoyed the design and images!
Ciao for now, Steemians.
This is awesome. :D Does rhino allow you to move around the object you make and change textures?
Yeah. You can map images and materials and move everything around
Fantastic Work, I love your over-lay style bringing context to the site. Strikes of colour drawing attention to the primary movement.
A very wonderful work my friend ♥
Very interesting to follow the creation of an architectural project... And great images.
Thanks! It was a lot of work.
