good old regulatory capture, stifling innovation at every turn. i learned about this side of things in the mid 90's when i was learning geodesics. buckminster fuller's system is a masterwork. i think all by itself it could save us from all kinds of shortages. that bamboo house is great. doesn't that bamboo grow 3 feet a day? that would be housing materials until the end of time. what do you think it would take to dislodge the code? i'm thinking a collapse. if the code can't be enforced for lack of funds, it can't exist. i see few other ways.

exactly. Structural innovations are happening all the time, but the code has yet to be flexible. I do think that an economic collapse will change the way we build and think about building.

also medicine, food, and travel, any number of things will be affected. necessity is a great fiery monster that eats bureaucracy for breakfast. eventually.
