Nestled on a hill in Mercer Island, in the middle of Washington Lake, between Seattle and Bellevue, this two-story residence focuses on craftsmanship, materiality and connection with the outdoors.
The need for customers' privacy to neighbors is achieved through the L-shaped design of the house. A cantilevered wing containing the master bedroom aligns with the adjoining property and shields the rest of the house from looks to create a private hideaway inside the L. The cantilever catching element views focused on Lake Washington. The stained black cedar cladding covers the outside of the private areas of the house of more than 400 m2. Public spaces are lined with copper panels, which have developed a rich patina. Inside, an open main living space is wrapped by a strip of windows. The design also sculpts more intimate areas. The master suite includes the bedroom, an adjoining walnut desk and a spa-shaped bathroom embedded in limestone and eucalyptus cabinets. The furniture and some elements of construction (doors, stairs ...) are the result of collaborations with local craftsmen.
