when I worked at CP Rail Mechanical in Canada, there was a lot of really cool scrap metal. On the night shift, with no supervisor watching, we often welded stuff together to take home for garden sculptures. You wouldn't believe what all you can do with a broken knuckle, some other draft parts, springs etc, a cutting torch and a bit of welding.
