Horton 229 build update 2 of 2

in #art5 years ago

Hello Fellow steemians!

In my last update on this little build I had started to paint the underside of the kit. Now we get to start on the top!

Here is a base coat of Tamiya Primer. I normally skip this step but I wanted to make sure that I didn't leave any sanding marks. Once that is dry I spray the same grey as I used on the underside. Their were two painting options in the kit but I wanted to try something a little different. I have already painted the engine exhausts a metallic silver and have masked it off to protect it.

And here we go! :-) Yes I am painting the plane to look like a grey Giraffe don't worry. Late war German night fighter schemes had spotted camouflage paint schemes like this. No this isn't a night fighter variant but I just really wanted to try the paint scheme.

I stick with the colors recommended for this kit, I even follow the regular camouflage pattern. I just make my own little changes lol. The colors used are RLM 74 and RLM 75 from Vallejo air.

You can see the little circles in my paintwork. Basically this is were I have sprayed a little heavy. I will give this a light coat of the light grey later to help correct this.

And there she is! Now its time to add the little decals.

1005.jpg

What a mess! (above). :-) Once the decals are applied I coat the model with an acrylic clear to protect the paint work. Next step if to cover the whole model with a thinned mix of black oil paint. This will flow into the details and help them stand out.

Here the dry oil paint has been wiped off. You can see how the little areas stand out now, such as the ailerons. Now the underside gets the same treatment.

Time to install all the little pieces. Canopy, landing gear, bay doors, pitot tube etc.

And just like that, it is complete! Not a bad little kit, it has its problems but overall it is a fun build. Below are some more shots of the completed model. As always a massive thank you to everyone who take the time to have a look at my post. I really appreciate all the support. Until next time!
