ART TUTORIAL: Black currant watercolor painting

in #art8 years ago (edited)

Video tutorial with speed paint process and commentary. The page size is 21 x 30 cm (A4).

1) At the start, you need to make a very detailed drawing for watercolor painting because you wouldn't be able to change a core silhouettes of your image with colors. Be precise and attentive to all details and aspects of a drawing.

2) The first layer of paint must be bright and not very dark. Don't cover all highlights and the lightest parts of your painting until the end stage of your work.

3) Try to cover all parts of your page with color relations between different objects. You can combine some wet in wet pourings with more simple dry ones.

4) At the second layer, you need to work more with tonal relations. Cover all shadows with dark pourings but leave a little bit of transparency inside of them.

5) Various parts of your painting must be different in color, tone, and texture of your strokes. The monotone structure of a painting psychologically is very boring for a viewers eye.

6) In conclusion the last strokes to make some accents, details and color nuances in different corners of a painting. Don't work too hard on this stage - think more, paint less.

Great tutorial. I actually like the desaturated images of 4 & 5 best. You've got superb control of the watercolour technique, something I've never been able to get.

Thank you. This images are from video (I didn't want to stop a process for taking photos), and agree that they are interesting. I can make a tutorial on this topic or even give a private lesson, lol.

Again, very useful. Thanks
