Here is a little sneak peek into the new community art show at Solar Culture Gallery in Tucson, Arizona. It is a non-profit organisation, art and music venue running since 1987. We are changing the art three times a year, and there is no jury. Each time over 100 of local artists are joining us.
The ability to share with your creations, and to reflect in the work of others is very empowering and inspiring. Each art show seems to be getting better, and magic happens when all the art is coming together.
I’ve been involved in doing it and hanging the art shows for the last 12 years. It is surely the path of an accelerated evolution in many ways, and that's why I've chosen it.
Meanwhile, after very busy weeks, I am seriously excited to delve back into my introvert mode;)
Beautiful exhibition! Over 100 artists! WOW! That sounds big! How many pieces (approximately) are there? I guess it takes a lot of time to see all of them.
And do you have a theme or you simply accept any authors? I see that there are various styles so that's why I'm asking :)
Your photos are great! It must be a blast to help organizing it :)
Have a lovely start of the week!
Yeah, it gets pretty intense;p We are accepting from each artist up to 3 pieces, so we get around 200-300 pieces to hang. Over the time of 4 months when the art is hanging, I keep discovering new things;) We are usually having a title of the art show, but it's more like planting the seed with the word, rather than making everyone to share the art that is an answer to it. Everyone's art is being honored, so it's a nice alternative to the usual reality of the art world. And thank you! Yes, it's very exhausting but always deeply rewarding in many ways;-) Enjoy your week as well! blessings!
Wow this is so cool, what a great mix of styles and subject matter. Really love the ethos here, great to be inclusive of local artists and boost the local art scene without worrying about how the different things will mesh together. Variety being the spice of life and all :) Much love - Carl
Yes indeed, it's a nice alternative to a usual reality behind the art world, and it makes a difference!;) it's always very interesting to see how different pieces are complementing each other, together they are creating the new stories
this is great - very eclectic, but I like such a clutter of different art. I had been involved in something similar back in the mid eighties: we occupied a former fruit and vegetable warehouse, calling the show "Radish Factory". It was fun - from seasoned pros to amateurs, nobody was turned away. It was challenging to hang it. Our biggest kudo was that in the 2 months the show was up, we had had many more visitors than the "official city gallery" had all year. And we did it on a shoe-string budget and some donations from local business.
Radish Factory - that sounds rad!
Woah! it looks like we have very similar journeys!;) This building is also a former fruit and vegetable warehouse! over 100 years old, in art deco style, next to trains, quite a gem!;) Yess, I love doing it, putting this big art puzzle together, but it can be very challenging to hang indeed, especially towards the end when you are running out of good spots, and you don't know how you will be able to fit everything in. This place is being supported mostly through the event and art studio rentals.
There is alot of great stuff there. I wish I could see it in person. It's all wonderfully. Thank you for sharing this.
