Jack Daniel, Music rights Inside art Literally
Music and visual art are very closely related, the two often and combined in the form of performance art but aside from a VR experience it’s pretty hard to sell. But what if music could be written and saved into an artwork?
That is exactly what artist Jack Daniel is doing, Using the blockchain art exchange Jack has decided that in lieu of connecting a large file to the artwork he will instead connect an instrumental music piece that can only be accessed by the buyer of the artwork. Not all of jacks works are like this but the ones featured on https://blockchainartexchange.io/artist/981a2f4b-de60-47dc-8ab0-8087e1ded47f all contain a piece of music. To get access to this file at first users will need to send a command to our smart contract requesting the file. But soon after launch, we will be adding a way of doing this via a UI.
But the fun doesn’t stop their jack has also added usage rights into the mix. But this is usage rights like you’ve never seen before this is how it works; If you buy jacks artwork you will have the rights to use the music that came along with it. You can use this music in any way you want other than just selling the track, you can sign over it use it in your promo videos and really anything else. So, what’s the catch first is jack still can use the track how he wants, the second is you cant preview the music before you buy the art, the third is a bit more interesting if you ever sell the artwork with the music in it. You will lose all usage rights the exchange on the blockchain is time stamped so you’ll get to keep all the stuff you used it for in that time frame.
Now let’s dive into some information about the artist- Jack Daniel Thompson grew up in Waterloo, London. Having a deep passion for DJing jack was always interested in some form of creative expression. At the age of 16, Jack attended the highly regarded music college ACM, where he received a first-year degree. Jack Daniels never wanted to complete a full degree seeing in it nothing more, than a waste of money and time. Deciding instead to forge his own path in the world. Jack has created his own artworks for his album covers since he launched his first E.P. “Always Late”. Thomson being the entrepreneur he is also decided to create his own clothing line, called Roman Republic at the age of 17.
Thomson first writes a musical piece then after visualizes the work around it. This is always attached to the work via a QR code. Which also affords the buyer and holder of the artwork certain rights to use the musical score, as long as they still hold the art in their possession. Jack started by creating scenes based on his own fascination with the Roman republic. His debut collection based on such thoughts was exhibited at the critically acclaimed London gallery and members club “The Lights of Soho” in 2015 where he enjoyed a sell-out show.
