Steemit Covers : Paper (and facts about Paper & Trees) 🌳

in #art7 years ago

Today is another graphics day.

I have to admit I've been on a roll with the graphics today.

@TheAlliance logo submitted for inspection and a whole bunch of footers done for @SteemPh.

I was working on a special project but had to step away from it for a while cos I couldn't get my head around it lol so i figured I will revisit later but for now I will address my cover image issue and make us new covers.

Paper

I have always had a great love for paper. Whether it be in a well read novel, beautiful art work or colouring in books, paper has always been something that was present in my life and a medium I often got lost in.

Recently, as I began being more conscious about my impact on this planet I have learned to have more respect for paper because as you know, paper comes from trees and I have decided I love trees more than I love paper.

Some interesting facts about paper and trees.

🌳 Paper is said to have been invented by the Chinese in 105AD and it was originally made of bark and hemp rags.

🌳 It takes twice the amount of energy to make a paper bag than a plastic bag.

🌳 500,000 trees must be cut down just to produce each week’s Sunday newspaper (all U.S. Sunday papers combined).

🌳 Recycling a single run of the Sunday New York Times would save 75,000 trees.

🌳 Paper cannot be recycled indefinitely. With every recycling, fibers become shorter. After being processed five to seven times, the fibers become too short for the production of new paper, requiring the addition of new fibers.

🌳 A single tree produces approximately 260 pounds of oxygen per year. That means two mature trees can supply enough oxygen annually to support a family of four!

🌳 Over the course its life, a single tree can absorb one ton of carbon dioxide.

🌳 The locations of the world’s tallest and oldest trees are kept top secret to avoid tourist crowds damaging them and their surroundings.

🌳 Jadav Molai Payeng, a 47-year-old Indian, started planting trees when he was a 16, on a barren sandbar. Fast Forward to today, he now lives in his own 1360 acre jungle that is now inhabited with tigers, elephants and other wild animals

Here he is :) He's pretty amazing.

Now back to the covers.

These are really simple, so simple I'm not taking credit for them. I just resized these to Steemit Cover size, adjusted the brightness and saturation and now here they are, totally guilt free because it's electronic.

G'day Arly. Some cool facts about paper & trees. I remember reading about that amazing Indian Bloke. What a legend. The world could do with a few more of him.

A couple of good points for the future:
Most of the trees used to make paper etc. today are from sustainable plantation forests.
Hemp is making a comeback, which is great. Not many people realise what a great plant it is for the environment.

Actually, I might even do a post on Hemp. I'm thinking of starting up an online business selling hemp products called "HempeStore". As a Graphic Designer you might be interested in the logos I had made?

Great points Plumey! 👍

Sure. Give us a look at them logos!

Design by @bearone - I'm going to try my hand at a cover with one of these.

I love trees as well! Blessings 😁

wow falcata trees!

I love how you know what kind of tree it is <3

I knew that papers came from falcata tress since grade school however, it was just this year I saw a hectares of those hehehe

thank for inforten information, @bearone
in my place ever made the paper

Interesting fact.. I hope more people will realize it..Its just like a race against the skyscrapers people adore more tall high building than an old large tree..and everything are still on paper, it keeps all people life on it trusted data and etc .. and how are going to change that in a large number of awareness in a short time to prevent more damage .. and we all not going to be a fish to try to live on land where it can't breed anymore.. you know what i mean..less tree less oxygen..

I hope more people realise it too. I've noticed the skyscrapers race and and still on going consumption of paper and trees. I wish I had an answer , because I agree with you, less trees less oxygen.

Hello, Maam! Borrowing the 2nd to the last cover. :) Loved the last 4 covers!

And yes, as much as I love drawing, trees >>> papers!

best rejuvenating nature pic

Ohh Yay! I'm glad you like them <3

I'd love to be able to draw on a tablet. I've tried but can't get the hang of it.

as for myself, i love traditional art too much to shift to digital. :)

Ohh yes.. There is something about paper. I'm much more comfortable with it.

Very true, people should not waste paper as they came from the source of life on Earth. Do you walk in the woods momi?

I haven't for a long time. I should though. There are walking tracks all around me, apparently there's
waterfalls up here somewhere.

Great hood momi. Sana ganyan din dito sa metromanila though we have a rainforest park nearby, iba pa din yung totoong forrest at may falls like what you have there. Ang saya!

Hopefully, we will start using hemp for paper and much less of it. Still, so much junk mail and throw away flyers coming into the house.

I wish we never stopped using hemp, from everything I've read about it, its a much better option. Junk mail drives me bonkers. Mine goes straight into the recycling bin every time. Seriously? Who cant look up the latest catalogue online these days?

You and me both wished hemp and other paper-making alternatives were still in use. It will come, but it will be slow. There is a huge industry = big $ around paper.

I try my best to get off mailing lists - but it is such a long way to get rid of all of them - and some, you can't. They go to every mailbox.....

Great facts, thanks for sharing @ bearone!
