Y;
YAK
(Bos grunniens)
In Tibet there dwells the hairy Yak,
Treading firm over mountainous track.
A most valued animal in these parts,
Held in high regard in Tibetans’ hearts!
For Tibetan people just love to see
Large blobs of yak butter in their tea!
Its rich fat helps to keep out the cold,
So the idea to Tibetans is readily sold!
In fact it’s considered rather rude
To offer fat-free tea at this altitude.
If its oddness causes you to utter
Words not in favour of Yak Butter,
Remember that in this land you are the guest
And it’s polite to gulp yak tea with vigor and zest,
As you travel along over cold, icy slopes,
Held on yak backs with strong straps and ropes.
For the yak is also a renowned beast of burden,
(Just another good reason to raise a big herd on).
It can easily carry a quite heavy load
Along tortuous, curvy, thin mountain road.
And this undoubtedly is the way it must be,
Because people get fat when they drink yak butter tea!
