For more information about EOS, please visit https://eos.io

For anyone interested, here is the competition brief;

Please produce an image that represents EOS as a colossal sleeping entity that is on the verge of awakening and/or rising up. If your entity can incorporate some of the awesome characteristics of EOS's technology then all the better. Your colossus may take any form you like, with or without being set among surroundings. What is important is that the entity conveys it's colossal nature.

The EOS symbol (not the word EOS) must appear somewhere in the image.

Finally, the simpler the image, the better.

Competition rules;

I will decide the winner approximately this time next week. As always, I will try to incorporate community feedback into the decision.

1st prize will be awarded 250 Steem.
Two runners up will be awarded 75 Steem each.

Total prize fund of 400 Steem.

The rights to ownership of entries that win prizes will pass to me....I think clarity at this point limits the possibility for misunderstanding.

Please could you make your entries in your own post with the title "EOSART Competition - Colossus"

Please also put a comment in this post with a link to your entry post. Thank you.

I think this is a very difficult challenge, I'm excited to see what Steemit's artistic community may produce. Best of luck!

When is the exact time and day you will judge? My wife is a graphic designer and wants to create a logo. We own about 16k EOS and are very passionate about the project. She just wants a deadline... thanks!

Please extend the project at least 24-48 hours.

I will be judging the competition today around 5pm uk.

Thanks but I won't be able to participate.

Interesting!)) Involved!))

I want to diamond....

Woow very good competition

I hope so! :)

I will definitely attend. Just a question friend @benjojo, it must be an image or could have some movement ?.

I don't like to stifle creativity....so although it may be more difficult to adjudicate, if you want to do something in motion, go right ahead. Please could you choose a freeze frame and submit that as the image....though I will try to take the impact of the whole into consideration. How's that?

Amazing prizes! Resteemed for my followers!

Makes me want to get to work. :)
Good Luck, everyone!

Fantastic!

Here's a very low resolution idea:
eos3.jpg

I have higher resolution files, just tell me if you'd like to see a more refined worked out visual. If you want me to go for it, I'll contact @eosio for the right font and I'd need a vectorized logo of EOS.

Also I'm really not happy with the text yet, I'm just putting this up here to get some feedback on the visual. Do you feel just showing the hand like this creates the ominous feeling of a rising/awakening colossal creature?

I must be careful not to be unfair to the other contestants but I'm happy to give limited feedback that may help everyone. I hope you understand.

You may incorporate the EOS symbol into the entity or landscape itself and you do not need any words at all.....though that is entirely your choice.

I will say that it is an interesting interpretation of the brief and I am very much looking forward to seeing the next iteration.

Ok cool, I've just been having some fun with this. I saw some of your designs @benjojo and I realize full well that the stuff I've been playing with doesn't come close to the beautiful visuals you make. So I'm just dropping it here, it's yours if you like it, you can do with it want you want:

So I started with these mountains and the idea of a colossus rising behind them:
eos-D-logo-in-hand.jpg

Then, I thought how about the colossus being bigger than the clouds...

giant cloud colossus.jpg

But then again, it should be sleeping, right,

But what when it wakes up:
young eyes.jpg

Now I lost the idea here of a colossus, but an awoken phenomenon that just stares at you is still kinda impressive I think,

Or should it simply be a cat?

Many thanks @benjojo for giving me a night of fun with paint :)

Cheers,
Fitz

I'm very glad you have enjoyed participating. I very much like your idea that EOS is aware. There can be no doubt that EOS already has great personality!

Really good contest!

Glad you like it! :)

Would have liked to participate but "The rights to ownership of entries that win prizes will pass to me" is weird. A photographer or an artist is always the owner of the rights of the created images, even when winning a contest. Of course this is your contest so you apply the rules you want lol. Nice initiative though. Cheers :)

No problem. The competition is a form of community commissioning process, I'm purchasing the rights to the images created that win the prizes. That is one of the reasons the rewards are relatively high. Artists sell artwork you know, nothing weird about that!

Nothing weird about selling art indeed. :) And that is clearer.
When a photographer (or a visual artist) sells an image to a client, it does give the right to the buyer to use it under specific conditions. My point was just that buying the entire rights to an image is not something that artists accept easily (at least from my own experience) as it would allow you to resell the rights it for a much bigger amount to a third party company and even overtime. That is why it is usually very expensive to buy the entire rights and that artists ask what will be the use of their image before setting a price.
It's an interesting matter because as a photographer I was asking myself how the blockchain technology could help artists to catalog/reference their productions as authentic, in case someone else want to use their work for commercial purposes. It's all about intellectual property, actually funny because it is something I discussed during the Blockchain Live event in London last week with some of the block.one team btw ;)

I kind of get your concern. I share the hope that blockchain tech will empower artists by providing a secure, free market for their work and services. It's something I have mentioned several times. In this case, I don't really know what I'll do with the images.....what motivated me to make the disclaimer was the fact that after previous art competitions i've run, occasionally I found the artwork being used by others for different purposes and that can lead to confusion. Creativity is potentially limitless for a talented artist, what they really need is community awareness. I try to make the prizes substantial enough that an artist is well compensated for their time, it is difficult to predict the future value of an image that does not yet exist and there are many reasons why an artist may choose to participate in an art competition besides the possibility of winning the prizes. Either way, artists are free to enter or not :) I like to think I've always done my best to support the artistic talent on Steemit and be very fair.

I completely agree on this point with you and as said before I encourage and appreciate initiatives like this.
I just wanted to explain my feelings about copyrights, it is something I am sensitive to because it has been recently more and more difficult for photographers (but I would say visual artists in general) to survive, because the copyrights are less and less considered. When clients are hiring me, they have the sensation that they have any rights on the images I produce during the shooting. Many clients forgot the fact that there is a major difference between the prestation (the actual shooting session), and the rights to use. It is obvious that the price of an image won't be the same if the client is using it in front of his store to promote his business, than if he plan a worldwide ad campaign with giant billboards in different major countries. That is very interesting subject to discuss though. Thanks to have shared your vision.

I'm game. let's do this.
