Hi people, I hope they are very well, I come to bring to a new post
the world of animation, I have always liked and I think it is very interesting, I see in this network an opportunity to give opinions and establish points of view on different topics, so I have made the decision to make more than one article on animation; like the one that deals today, an animation that I like, a work of art.
I start by saying that this animation is intended for a children's audience or rather aimed at all audiences, where different factors influence, from conceptual art, to the theme and purpose of this beautiful animation, which dates from 2014.
Let's talk "over the garden wall"
This story talks about two half brothers, who travel through strange forest looking for the way to their home, on the way they will meet and live many strange and interesting events, at the same time they will meet new friends and people who will help them not to lose its course, however difficult the route may be.
I will explain here a little about the contrasting personality of the brothers:
Wirt:
Wirt is one of the main protagonists of the series. He's a cynical, almost adolescent boy who sees the world in a serious way, a difference from his half-brother Greg. Throughout the series and in the development we can see some insecurity in his person, tending to be somewhat derogatory with Greg, showing himself as a typical teenager.
Greg or Gregory is younger than Wirt and also has a leading role in this story, being a spontaneous character and much more optimistic than Wirt, who causes some concerns throughout history for his great curiosity and impulsiveness, Greg always looks with a smile on his face and also something naive.
Now let's talk a little about the development of the story:
The half-brothers arrive at a forest called "the unknown" where they know a Lumberjack whose work involves the felling of "the Edlewood trees" which he then grinds in his mill to produce oil that he uses to keep his lantern lit constantly. The Woodcutter warns the children of The Beast, a terrible creature that stalks the forest in search of lost children, this tells the boys to escape the forest, or the Unknown. They leave in search of help to return home.
The boys, along with Greg's pet frog, to which they try to give him an appropriate name, continue down a path and meet the biting Beatrice, a blue bird that can talk. Greg helps her free herself from a bush and she agrees to help the children home by taking them to see Adelaide from the grass, the good witch of the woods. On the way to Pasto de Adelaida, the group has several adventures where numerous inhabitants of the unknown meet.
First they run into the harvest party in Pottsfield where they are found guilty of misdemeanors by the fantastic mayor, Enoch, and are sentenced to a few hours of labor in the fields. The brothers help each other save a small school for the animals of financial ruin and ravage gorilla. While hitching a ride on a hay cart, they get lost. In the search for directions, they enter a spooky tavern populated by narrative archetypes (for example, the butcher, the tailor, the highwayman, etc). Beatrice is banished by the Guardian Tavern and Wirt was initially declared to be a naive fool, then the young lover, and finally, a pilgrim on a sacred journey. When Beatrice is heard screaming in the woods, Wirt (along with Greg and his frog) is sent to the rescue of a horse that leads from the barn. They come in the Lumberjack, who have come to suspect that it could be the Beast. Greg is able to pick up the unconscious Beatrice and flee into the woods. The Beast then comes out of danger of speaking with the Woodcutter, where it is revealed that the Woodcutter keeps the lantern on because his daughter's spirit is kept alive inside.
I hope that the previous thing catches your attention, since this miniseries has 10 chapters and the use of colors and a plot that keeps us trapped, makes this work something very endearing, handling different scenarios during all chapters and throughout of the animation, play with everything that the forest can give, from scenarios, to characters, mini stories within the plot and a great outcome, making its content from my perspective enter a kind of "childish horror", but friends, I have more than 20 years and this miniseries fascinates me, leaves a lot to think about and I totally recommend it.
It also plays with anthropomorphic animals and vegetables, creating a great diversity of characters with different personalities and problems. the contrast between the personalities of Wirt and Greg also makes them complement each other, thus making this pair a dynamic duo.
I also want to present you some curiosities of the show:
Over The Garden Wall is inspired by Divine Comedy of Dante.
The clothes that Wirt and Greg wore during their trip in The Unknown were actually Halloween costumes.
Being in this case Wirt's disguise of a "I do not know what I'm disguised" with the appearance of a Gnome, and the costume of Greg being an elephant, so the teapot on his head was the head of the elephant.
It has certain similarities with the animated series of Disney Gravity Falls.
The scenarios of Over The Garden Wall are set in an autumnal landscape.
It was not known that Wirt and Greg were actually half-brothers until the episode 4 Songs of the Dark Lantern.
There were several ideas for the miniseries, one of these was to see the series from Wirt's perspective, so to speak, Wirt and Greg board a train that takes them to death, but during his trip, Wirt realizes that everything time the train took them to life, but being a little late, the fact that the character did not want to accept his own death was very disturbing for a child, so the idea was discarded.
Here I leave a video of the trailer of the series, in case you want to see:
I hope you like this content and are encouraged to see this beautiful series!
