신사임당의 초충도중 수박과 들쥐

시대 : 16세기

신사임당이 그린 초충도 8폭 중의 한 폭이다.
신사임당은 15세기 전반에 활동한 작가인데, 그의 작품으로 전해지는 것들은 대부분 초충도이고, 산수도도 있다.
수박 두 덩이가 땅 위에 뒹굴고 있고, 수박덩굴은 길게 호를 그리며 왼쪽에서 오른쪽으로 뻗어 있다.
그 끝에는 패랭이가 피어 있고 덩굴 위에는 나비가 날고 있으며, 땅 위에는 쥐 두 마리가 수박을 파먹고 있다.
여기서 수박은 씨가 많기 때문에 다산의 상징으로 쓰인다.
자연의 즐거움과 다산의 소망이 어우러져 있는 작품이다.
