Bringing my old sketchbook back to life

Today, I wanted to do something creative. When I gathered my art supplies, I found my old sketchbook.

The last entry is from 2015 - I wouldn't have thought that it's really been that long since I drew.

My sketchbook is still quite empty, there are only a few pages filled with drawings.

I started out with some branches and a tree:

The tree is somewhat 'unfinished', I couldn't decide how to connect top and bottom, so I left it like that.

Next time I tried to draw a scenery I found in an old calendar.

To be honest, I am still pretty proud of the result, I drew this with actually no experience or much of training.

One day, I bought pastels, then I did these:

I well remember me buying the book, along with tons of (colored) pencils and stuff - and then I lost my flow and inspiration after a couple of drawings.
The sketchbook has been unattended since, so I decided to change that today.

I had my acrylic paint and the brushes ready, and I did not feel like drawing something, so I just painted into the book. The painting I actually had in mind was some floral motif on a slightly yellow background.
When I had the yellow on the page, I felt an urge to mix blue and white, I took a plastic painting-knife-thingy, and just 'spread' the color.

While I was waiting for the paint to dry, thinking about how to proceed, I started seeing shapes in the color. A ship, towers, even people.

Well, that was it with the flowers then, I took a black sharpie to outline the shapes.

This is how it looks now:

Do you see the two people on the upper part of the page? I outlined them with a soft pencil line, but don't know yet what to do with them. I'll take a little time out of the thinking now and close the book for a while - hoping for a flash of inspiration to come when I least expect it.

That's it for now, thank you for your time to read till the end and have a lovely rest of your day.

Cheers, Kat 🖖
