This is a full-sheet watercolor which is quite large for the medium. Meaning, in order to paint a successful watercolor this size it requires planning.
I've developed my own step-by-step system for increasing my chances of success and which is presented in the 15-minute video below. It features the development of this painting from start to finish.

Thank you very much @bosjaya
I can almost hear it! The painting, I mean, not the video 8-).
Thank you! @ocrdu
One of the most educational, inspiring, and beautiful art WIP's I have seen. Thank you so much for posting and sharing your journey with us. I really want to break out the water colors again. Now to search through YouTube about glazing with water colors: my colors alway turn to mud when I try this.
@twirble Thanks for the kind words! It's great to hear that you benefited from my post and video. Use Arches or similar quality high paper, professional colors (they're the most potent), and try to lay on as few washes as possible to get what you're after. Hope that helps. Good luck!
Thank you! I have good paper at least and good watercolor pencils. I can do something.
You are living the dream! Beautiful work and excellent information in the video. Upvoted, Resteemed and I am now you newest fan! Keep up the inspiring work!
@samanthajbarnes Thank you very much. I'm glad that you appreciate the video!

@redtravels Thank you very much!
This is really very real life effect. I glad that I follow you.
Thanks @james7 I'm glad you follow me, too!
I absolutely LOVE your river rock compositions Lee.. The cools and warms with the textures on the rocks are just delicious! :)
Thanks so much for saying so, @mayasky I really really enjoy painting them, probably more than any other type of landscape setting. It's because so much can be done with them.
Wow! I could watch you all day long!
Thanks! @dswigle I guess you found my video! 😉
What a wonderful inspiring video. Your artwork is amazingly beautiful and watching you create helped me to understand so much. I look forward to using what I have learned. I hope you will continue to post videos that show your work which is amazing!
@kickingketo Thanks so much! I have a few more YouTube videos on my channel but they take effort and time that I'd rather spend on producing my art. Maybe the ones I've already done will interest you. Thanks for commenting!
My god.
This is terrific.
😇🤐🤐😇
@kapish So nice of you to say so. Thanks!
What can I say, other than great work!
Hey bro @countryinspired Thanks so much!
I'm glad to see you are doing very well with your posts. They are getting some attention and the payouts reflect that. It's nice catching some rewards for quality work!
Slow and steady wins the race, right? I've experienced a slow and steady buildup for almost a year now. I'm really happy to post my work on Steemit so people around the world will see it and perhaps I'll get more work into art collections because of posting. 😎 That was and is my main reason for being here and now that the price of Steem has gone up so much and with HF19, so much the better!
Slow and steady, indeed. It seems to be working!
This is all over awesome.
I don't really have words to say ...
👏👏
Thanks so much @james7
This is much better than your previous waterfall art @chessmonster
