3 PAINTINGS - different but same

in #art7 years ago

Hello everybody,

before I write a little bit about these 3 artworks I'd like to say it one more time (and because I have been asked so many times before):

These are graphite drawings of mine which are digitally colored. No retouched photographs of any kind, no collages. These are original drawings that I scanned, sent to the colorist and he painted the colors.

All right, ;)

today I'd like to share 3 of my works where I collaborated together with another artist; in this particular case with the Spanish digital painter Jose A Cano who is an expert in digital coloring.

I found his works online back then and was hooked on his skills of digital (Pin-Up) painting right away. I loved his ultra smooth style, almost like digital airbrush and his interpretation of Erotic Art. He created his very own works and I thought I might give it a try and see if he would like to collaborate on some stuff. And he did.

It's all quite a few years ago and I had already published my first art book with SQP Inc. So with a complete book full of my pencil works, good sales and plenty ideas in my head for new art, SQP and I pretty quickly worked on a new concept for a second book.

I had a huge collection of photos and reference material and began selecting different pieces and sets for the book.

While going through my archive I found a good amount of photos that already "worked" very well in color. Since I usually work with color photographs and convert them into my gray pencil drawings it came to me that I really wanted to see some of my original drawings being colored. In fact, the chosen pictures would ONLY "work" in color for various reasons.

So I reached out to Jose and sent him a few pencil drawings and just let him do his magic.

What he sent me back was just awesome.

I worked together with several other colorist in my "comic years" and everyone had his own style or color palette but these pictures made me super happy.

Jose immediately understood what I wanted to see over my pencils and he added his very personal touch to each and every drawing.

I showed the first try outs to my publisher, they agreed right away and we started working on my second book.

At the end, we had around 30+ colored pieces, original pencil drawings, a few sketches and the book was done.

These three are my absolute favorites.

The high level of realism blew me away when I received the painted versions in those warm sepia tones.

I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

Have a good Sunday,

D

if you're saying those aren't photos, then I fear my profession may be akin to a river boat captain circa mark twain.
