Mostly due to the terrible weather we've had recently and being stuck indoors a lot, I've been brushing up on my Cinema 4D. Its a 3D modelling and rendering program I used to use a lot but only really as a hobby. I seem to go through phases of being really enthusiastic and wanting to really pursue it, and then I usually get distracted by other software or other creative outlets like photography or music production.
So anyway over the last few days I was feeling enthusiastic about it so started dusting off the cobwebs. I also recently got a new toy that makes this stuff a lot of fun, a 3Dconnexion SpaceMouse Enterprise. Its basically a cool gadget for navigating 3d workspaces in a really natural and intuitive way that just makes this stuff a lot more enjoyable.
I've been mostly trying out different lighting and material types and I put this little scene together that I thought a few Steemians might like. Be sure to check out the full size render.

This is how the scene looked within Cinema 4D, before rendering it out.
An alternative angle.
Just in case its of any interest ao anyone here's my desk while working on it. You can see the SpaceMouse on the left side of the Dell Canvas. Having the Canvas is a really nice help too as I can have a render preview on display while still working away on the main screen.
Hope thats of interest to a few people. If it it please leave a comment or upvote as I do really enjoy this stuff and would be happy to share more if you guys like it.
That's kickass dude! Steemit needs more content like this.
Cheers dude, I think most people on here follow me for the photography stuff but I'm always working away at this stuff too so happy to share more.
Woah, that's cool and what a sweet setup as well! Time for a Steemit the Animated Series!
Haha well I'm not quite at "Avatar" level quite yet but its fun experimenting with it. Weirdly it has lots of similarities with photography. When setting up the virtual camera you still set all the same aperture, focal length, ISO and shutter time settings you would with a camera. Also lights behave the same way too, definitely lots in common.
What a nice workbench :) Is this Dell an inking pen touch tablet?
Yep pretty much, its a pressure sensitive touchscreen monitor, basically the same as a Wacon Cintiq 27QHD but with better screen (100% Adobe RGB coverage) and better touch screen controls. Its so much fun to work on!
Oh that's a cool device :) I also got used to love my Surface pen.
Yep the Surface is very cool. If you look to the left of my Dell Canvas in the last picture that's a Surface Pro 4 beside it. I use that for reference material or tutorials while I'm working on my main pc.
haha, there are so many devices on the picture, overlooked the Surface 😃
Lovely render chief, and great job on the tripod legs too.
Cheers dude, the modelling tools in C4D are really intuitive and a bit more forgiving then some programs. I used a good few booleans and smoothing modifiers that would have left the topology in an awful mess if this was any of the Autodesk programs but I somehow ended up with a half decent result on this one.
