My friend Astrid, who lives in my building is a sweet woman with a heart of gold. She is so kind and sincere and truly has a passion for painting. She has a great energy and I liked her since the first time meeting her. I love her work and told her I would write a blog to help promote her work. She grew up in Austria, in the small west Styrian village Schwanberg, on the edge of the Koralpe amidst a beautiful landscape. Color compositions and drawings have always fascinated me. My parents ran a garage. And when I decided to study art, my parents said, "Honey, if you do not want to die hungry, please study something serious!" So I decided to study economics. I worked in various banks and advised business clients on the implementation of new projects. Besides, I attended ceramic classes and painting classes and also took a silk painting course with the well-known Austrian artist G. Johannson. I was immediately fascinated by the brilliance of the silk and the bright colours. I experimented self-taught with the silk and developed my own style. In 2014, I came to Mexico for the first time and was fascinated by the beauty of the country, the lifestyle and the sea. I revisited the country 2 months later and decided to take six months out of banking and learn Spanish in Playa del Carmen. After 4 months, I realized that I would not return to my old life. I quit my job, moved to Playa del Carmen with my art supplies and started my career as an artist.
Silk is a very noble material and I am using this material for my paintings I only use high-quality silk from China, such as Crepe de Chine or Pongee in different strengths. To separate the colours I am using Gutalines, which I am applying with a small metallic stick. For fixing the colours I am ironing the silk after finishing with low heat. After that process the pictures are washable and even the sun cannot change the colours.
The silk paints are water-based and can be mixed with each other. So brilliant colours can be produced in each nuance, which makes the pictures very special. You can hang these framed or wear them as a scarf. Thes are all hand painted and she can do custom work as well.
