Art

  • Alchemy (open source, cross platform)

Alchemy is an open drawing project aimed at exploring how we can sketch, draw, and create on computers in new ways. Alchemy isn’t software for creating finished artwork, but rather a sketching environment that focuses on the absolute initial stage of the creation process. Experimental in nature, Alchemy lets you brainstorm visually to explore an expanded range of ideas and possibilities in a serendipitous way.

If you want to see more of what I made when playing with Alchemy go here!

  • Webchemy
A simplified, mobile website version of Alchemy.

  • Evolvotron (Open source, Linux based - no windows version)

Evolvotron is an interactive "generative art" application for Linux to evolve images/textures/patterns/animations through an iterative process of random mutation and user-selection driven evolution. (This process is also often referred to as "evolutionary art" or "genetic art".) If you like lava lamps, and still think the Mandelbrot set is cool, this could be the software for you.

I haven't yet installed this yet because I need to install the fink project first. I may update here later when I get it installed.

  • Blender (cross platform, open source)

Blender is the free and open source 3D creation suite. It supports the entirety of the 3D pipeline—modeling, rigging, animation, simulation, rendering, compositing and motion tracking, even video editing and game creation.

I like this software so much I made a simple tutorial explaining how to use it (in a very basic way).

Music

  • Figure (proprietary, iOS only)

Make music in seconds. Share, remix and collaborate with music makers all over the world

This has to be the coolest app for iPhone and I wish they would support Android too, but they don't. I use some of the songs I do in here in my music creation process. You can hear my musical creations made with Figure (and Reason) here.

If you want to hear my finished songs stop by my SoundCloud page - there's a Steemit song there too!

Allihoopa is the place to share and remix your Figure tracks. It's also a great place to discover artists who use it and connect with them (some link their Twitter or SoundCloud pages).

Ohm Studio (proprietary, Mac and Windows)

Ohm Studio is the first real-time collaborative digital audio workstation. Start a project, invite musicians and make music together.

I liked this concept so much that I bought a life-time subscription - but I haven't used the software yet. They have a free plan which accomodates up to 10 projects. Pricing is here. If anyone is using this and wants to try collaborate on a project, hit me up! I'd like to learn how to use this.
