Blue Herons in Pastel My Drawing

We're lucky in our wildlife here, especially sea birds. We've a rich assortment of them from basic gulls, to sandpipers, to the most majestic of the lot: Snowy Egrets, Osprey and of course the magnificent Blue Heron.

They can't help but show up in my artwork here and there and in this case are the star features:

There antics entertain me in the Summer, no end and I can watch them feed and dive for hours. We're even lucky that this Winter, we've one stalwart fellow who, for whatever reason, has decided to stick around. You see, the egrets and osprey and herons all head South at the end of Summer into early Autumn.
This one fellow stayed behind. First he simply roosted with the Snowy Egrets (for whatever reason they leave a good few weeks after the herons and osprey, maybe to get the last of the good hunting in our salt water riverways and harbours)
Yet, when we said good bye to the last of the snowy egrets (even have a bit of a small party with a day out in the kayaks to see them roost one last time) this fellow decided to say.

I laugh that he's like us, the poor cousins, having to stay in the Summer house despite it freezing cold January and not cruising the Med or drinking bellini in the warmth of Florida sunshine. Well, whatever the reason, I'm glad he's stuck around, as I'm sure he'll inspire me to more artwork.

I hope you have a lovely day and find time to indulge in your own passions and remember, stay creative.
