Another interesting order done for good guys from Russia who started an exchange service for any kinds of items. Say you may have old tape cassete player buried under dust but you don't mind to exchange it for old school 8 bit Nintendo game. This service would make your dreams come true.
Different Pencil Sketches
I've started from googling octopuses because they asked me to create it. Guys had this particular idea already that an octopus is holding different stuff in his tentacles exchanging them. As you can see this small octo was early prototype for other sketches.
I've tried few different ways of solving this task and actually this small cute octo inside octo machine I loved more than others but guys asked me to try and give them few more variants.
Here is some sort of stimpunk with old iron octopus which they loved also but together we've decided to simplify the character removing the buttons and add those tubes to the bottom with different icons on it as if our character was sorting the stuff.
Process of coloring
This final sketch was approved and I started to render the color version. It's done in Adobe Photoshop again and this is not vector. I've just drawn different elements with flat colors and then...
Everything started to appear. I was so anxious to finish it as fast as possible to get this work uploaded to my portfolio.
Final tweaks
This was the first version I've sent for final approval. They liked it a lot but asked me to do somthing with background to make the character look more bold with some depth. There should have to be some contrast to make it shine in the center.
After I've done those tweaks they was really happy approved the final variant. This is only a half of the story. Another half is like I've sold this illustration to one more project and it was my mistake which I had payed for later. Do you want me to tell this detective stuff?
P.S. It's 122 layers here. This is a hint for my recent contest where you can just guess how many layers on the illustration and win 10 SBD.
