Are Comedians Being Misunderstood+What Comedy Means To Me By EdgarsArt

Comedy

So comedy is one thing I am really interested in. It is something I take actually as serious as I can and I do not known where it actually started but from the very early childhood I was all in it.

As a kid I was not really the type of cracking jokes when I was around people etc. I was really a quite one and when i was in school I had really no way how to put my jokes out. So this thing about comedy stayed only in my head. But I did have one friend since the first grade with who i had a blast. Through the middle school i laughed so much. We laughed in school, after school, everywhere because we had this bond with each other, and the jokes were really simple but so funny.
When we separated I kinda left the joking aside and became serious and depressed in a way These were the last years of high -school and I just had to finish it. Since i had no one to joke with, i did not search for new friend, because in my school I had none and the ones who were there i did not want any things in common. But i had this comedy thing in me, and whenever i was home, walking somewhere, i was thinking about it. Not jokes in particular, but the overall structure of the jokes.

  • How you create one?
because to create a joke is actually petty simple, but I was fascinated about the talent some people have to create jokes on the spot, to have this structure so that in any situation, they can adapt and create a funny moment. Say something funny, act in a funny way, and break that moment from being weird, inappropriate, sad, depressed, angry-and to transform it to a funny and happy one. Because i believe that we can change the situations we encounter in our every day lives, by acting in a certain way and approaching situations in a certain way. Which is why sometimes when i do not know something i create a joke, i create something neutral when the situation in nervous or i have a task, i break the silence, nervousness with a joke, with a facial expression, to create some separation from stress and to think further after that moment will end.

There have been times when I have thought about doing stand-up. When I was younger I thought about it, because I have seen and learned from all the best stand up comics I know since I was a little kid. But I never did it, never actually stepped up and made a move. Because I know that doing stand-up is something completely different from being a genuinely funny person. It takes really a script and a notion what you are doing, so to feel the crowd to feel people how they responding and to be able to change yourself on the spot, which is intimidating for sure.
Anyway I learned about it because it is fascinating for me and I remember watching Rowan Atkinson early content, where he had a series of explaining the importance of visual comedy. Comedy without talking. The comedy itself started with visual comedy and the first visual comedy was actually very simple.
There was this artist who made shot video films, speeded them up 4 times and had cars, war technique(because it was during the world war) everything chasing each other, blowing up, damaging etc, It was the first comedic video material created. This is where Benie Hill originated years after wit his famous run. And i personally have interest in both verbal and visual comedy and i do not know which one fits the best for me, but them both are really important and you sometimes can put them together but sometimes you have to use only mimics and the result will be even better.

Some of the comics i find to be talented in their sphere:
Joe Rogan, Jamie fox,Joey Diaz, Craig Ferguson, Rowan Atkinson,Josh Robert Thompson. Tom Segura, Brendan Schoub., Ricky Gervais, Jim Carey etc, i could continue all night. These are just to name a few. Of course the all time greats I adore and I learned from as a kid: Benny Hill,Eddy Murphy, Bill Cosby,George Carlin, Chaplin etc.
The new ones who are coming up too, some are really good, like the guy who couple of year ago opened the Oscars. He awesomely covered the race thing, so that noon actually felt attacked. This is also what i love about comedy, that it is a way of speaking about the most serious things though a way of not really saying anything, but yet everyone knows what you meant.

This is where comedians are being a little bit misunderstood i think. I have also heard that funny people are actually the most saddest in their personalities. I personally think it is true, yet I can not say that for sure, but I do think that way. Now I have seen that often funny people are being looked at like they are happy all the time, That the jokes are part of them. Actually maybe it is for some, but often personally make a joke, without even being happy. I just make it to make the situation better, and the joke is needed to end the sad moment. So basically it means that the more i joke, the sadder i am actually. The more i laugh, the worst i am feeling. And comedy is a way of surviving really.
+Comedians are being blamed too often, for what they said,. I know that some jokes are wrong, some slip out, and some do not work, and they are picked up so fast, like you can do 10 jokes great, and one will be seen as offensive and that is it. All of your effort is under the cats tail and you are done. But in situations fails like this will happen, because sometimes you have to throw out something to see it works or not, and if you are just learning to be a comic, you have to try and fail, then you will learn, and never do it again, But every mistake is like a wild fire for sure.

Oh i could talk about this for hours and hours, but basically I do not consider myself funny at all, yet I kinda tend to be able to break the silence every time I want to, and i feel confident. At least people close to me find me funny and with a good sense of humour. And i try to make my girlfriend laugh, she really challenges my ability, because no every joke works. So it is a good exercise for me too, to find what she likes and what is funny. But i sure am amazed of people who are really funny, who are doing stand-ups, who are funny as an actors, improvisers etc.
Actually I am kinda working on my own comedy special. Trying to make a material for about 30 minute monologue, hoping to finish it this year. That is about as far as I can reveal it for now.

I chose to include this drawing of mine as it the best reflects a comedians life. Trapped in a beautiful thing called-Funny
