Can Art Heal The Sick? By EdgarsArt

Nowadays we all are free in our creativity and there are no limits for us as far as it does not offend anyone with no reason. I think that it is crucial to express yourself when you feel something emotional and there is no better way than to be artistic. Anyone can be artistic i think. To be honest,i think we all are already. Creativity does not start with drawing or singing or dancing. You can be creative in your daily life,if you are a gardener or if you are building houses. You are creative in your sphere. That is if you are enjoying the work you do.

Lately i have been researching the topic of sick art. Not the exact meaning of these words but the fact that art can heal.
Can art heal the sick? In order to go deeper into this subject i searched some proof and some results that would confirm my beliefe that art can heal.
Recently i read about a boy named Ryan. He is a nine years old and he has leukaemia. He has been doing ar therapy for some time and the results were amazing. The way how he described the feelings he has were:
"It feels like you can do anything really"
And to hear that from him makes me uplifted already. Even if sometimes we can not do anything in real life, we can use art we can get that feeling. And Ryan is not the only one who is experiencing the power of art therapy.
Art is saving thousands of military veterans every year. The art therapy is used to help these veterans to get past post-traumatic stress disorders. And this subject is very painful in the US alone as thousands of these brave men are ending their lives because of this. Who would have ever thought that art therapy would come in hand here. But it does, which i guess answers my question i asked earlier. I guess i answered it myself.

Now there are many more examples and lately i have been reading more about kids who are born with physical disorders and how using some simple art exercises they can be confident in life and feel worthy.
Maybe if we are looking at it in a simple way it can seem like an easy thing but it is not. It helps them to explore themselves and it gives the feeling of importance. They feel like they have a task of creating something meaningful. Through specific art exercises of course.
These exercises are based on a purpose and they are not just for fun. It is meant to stimulate childs artistic expression. Also it is non-verbal which therefore means that you have to comunicate through your feelings and emotions and they learn to express themselves. Actually the whole system of it seems fascinating to me and not long time ago i saw a real story about a small girl who had a terrible childhood. She did not go to school and was abused in her family. As awful as it can get. And she lived like this for years. Luckily at the age of 10 i think she got out of there and she could not speak. She could not write a single word and was mentally broken. Later when i saw how she draws with sand- it blew my mind. I guess that was all she could find in there.
I will return to this subject as i will explore it all deeper, because i also took some in depth medical books from a library explaining the Art+Medicine and the origins of the tehniques which are used today in art therapy.

Art certainly can do wonders. It bypasses the filters and blocks we put up and that can be the key to healing.

I'm very interested to see where someone of your incredible talent goes with this. ;-)

Art can definately help the individual purge stress as well as help the viewer that relates to that emotive quality in the piece.

Agree! Both sides get the emotional benefit
