Last year at this time I got my dribbble invitation. After a year beeing there, here is what I've learned:
- You need to be consistent. My goal was to upload one shot per week.
- The best time to post your shot is Monday, 10:00 a.m. CET.
- It’s all about 400x300 (or 800x600) thumbnail. Make it awesome.
- Don’t try to blow up front page with one revolutionary work. Half-court shots doesn’t work here.
- Being first on the front page gives you less than having regular uploads.
- First few months are slow. Just keep grinding.
- Having a lot of followers doesn’t make your shots auto popular.
- Being active player makes you grow as a designer.
- Becoming popular in this community gives you a lot of confidence.
- It’s not only about graphic porn.
- People doesn’t have 10k followers because they are the best designers. They are here for a long time and they are working hard.
- Dribbble is a great place for finding full time job.
- Dribbble is a terrible place for finding freelance remote work.
- Interacting with community is very important.
- You need to analyze your favourite works and learn why they are so good.
- Sharing your works through other social networks is important.
- The best way to gain followers consistently is to be featured on muzli articles.
- Only 30% of shot viewers will check your attachments.
- People doesn’t like to be criticized here.
- It’s important to show some work background (flow, grid etc.). There are a lot of beginers here that want to learn.
- Treat your profile page like your portfolio. It should look clean and proffesional.
- This community loves passionate people.
- If you are new to some topics, first try to copy others works. Do it pixel perfect and learn what is good and why.
- UI/UX and Illustrations are the most popular topics here.
- Branding and print design will not get you high here. Sorry behance newcomers.
- Always do some concept/personal project. Constant practice is key to success.
- Android is not very popular here unlike iOS.
- People actually care about good UX here.
- Respond to your comments. Dont’t be a D.
- If you can get 50–100 likes in first 2 hours you will be in top 5 at front page this day.
- Dribbble is a great place for selling design stuff.
- Stick to one topic. Jumping from UI to 3D and then to illustration is not a good thing for your audience.
- Enjoy playing this game. It’s not all about winning.
