Hello dear Friends ! Today I would like to present you Anthony Frederick Augustus Sandys ( 1829 – 1904 ), Pre-Raphaelite painter, portraitist and illustrator. His work falls into three distinct categoties. Firstly, his oil paintings – mostly female heads or half-lengths, painted with extraordinary fidelity and high finish. Secondly his portrait drawings. These were mostly done in pale colours on light blue paper. In female portraits Sandys often added a background of lilies, iris or other flowers, which give them an art nouveau appearance. Thirdly, his woodcuts and illustrations, a unique blend of Pre-Raphaelite subjects and an almost Durer-like precision.
