I am about to rain on your parade and I am sorry to do it but this shit has to be said... and I am glad I can say it while you are still just starting out. Please listen.
Because this is a gallery showcasing other people’s work, I worry, if you have permission to upload their work here. A lot of artists call steemcleaners to flag accounts. You should start featuring art that is firmly in the "Public Domain" only or only creations that are yours, to avoid fallout from artists that don't want their work in the blockchain forever.
After the 7 day post payout is up, you can never edit a post, thus never take an image down if an artist asks you kindly to do so...something that is always avoided if you get permission to upload the work first.
Source link every image that is not yours and try not to take post-payout if you don't have authority to upload the art from the artist themselves. Not a lot of artists take kindly to that, if they just happen on their work and find out someone made financial gains from their work without permission. They actually get quite upset.
A good way to feature artists is to find artists that are on youtube, if you share any videos that are monetized and subscribe, if you place the video link here everytime someone watches an ad on their video that artist profits.... so I generally don't give a hoot when it comes to linked videos as I know the artist profits by the share.
But this...hmmm never liked these types of features. From a copyright perspective I think this is a big no no-on the blockchain. When I see this stuff happening in the feed, I tin-eye reverse image search and get ahold of the artists directly to know if they are aware someone is uploading their work on the blockchain –
from experience 100% the artists never got asked - never got paid - never wanted their work in the blockchain forever. I have had artists cry to me on facebook because they are desperate to get there work back from this place...and you know what... they can’t. All people can do is flag those accounts out of existence.
As for the art - it seems great if only there was some way in the post that I could directly go to the artist’s work. If only there was some way of me knowing for sure the artist wants their work here. If only I had the artists website and social media links so that I can complement the artist directly. Does the artist have a Patreon page that people can donate to? As an "art gallery." Feed I feel like those types of details should be in the for front of your mind when uploading someone elses work.
How can I properly credit and transfer traffic to this artists work?< -- should always be on your mind or don’t bother as it is just a money grab on someone else’s work under the guise of “art appreciation”. The minute you make profit from the images is the minute we have walked out of appreciation and into theft.
This seems like I am being a stick in the mud… but I have just been on the other end of a broken artists heart, when it comes to steemit and these types of practices and I really feel it does steemit a disservice when we do these types of things to creatives.
Anyways I am following now and will reverse image search any further features that I deem copyright infringement on anothers work, and if the artists are still alive I will make my way to their social media pages, I will ask them if you have permission and link them so that they know what is going on with their work. Hopefully getting their opinion on the matter directly, will move you to try a different approach in the future.
Artists already get that enough. If you want to feature artists – it’s time to get serious about it @finearttoday or what are you doing here if not profiting off someone else?
I really would like to "Support Talent and Creativity !" but that isn't what we are doing here. We are upvoting your account and I doubt the real creative will get an ounce of support from what we are doing.
