We continue with the week of hyperrealism, although I must admit that I would like to extend it the following week, I would like to know what you think, if you want to continue with the batch of hyperrealist artists leave a comment to make a kind of survey.
Today I bring you another of the greats of this genre controversial for its extreme realism, in different pictorial fields, is Robin Eley an artist born in London and raised in Australia, became one of the greatest exponents of this genre. Come with me to learn something about the life and work of this interesting artist.
Born in London in 1978 and at the age of 3 his parents moved to Australia, where he studied art and obtained a degree in fine arts.
His works are characterized mainly by oil portraits, where it is common to find models both men and women adorned with fabrics of various colors, transparent plastics of various colors and aluminum foil, which places him in the new generation of hyperrealist painters who left behind urban landscapes and consumer products as a motive to represent.
Within his scheme as a painter is to represent the decline of beauty, based on that modern obsession demanded by the media through magazines, movies among others. His details in the works are remarkable at first sight, the use of figurative art to correct it and take it to hyperrealism is the essence of his work, then devotes attention to details with the different textures that must generate to give the illusion of depth, which undoubtedly misleads even the most trained eye that at first sight will be deceived into thinking that this is a photographic series, when in reality they are oil paintings.
It usually takes up to 2 months to create a painting, the process of mixing colors, as well as annotations to follow in the same place where I was painting the previous day is part of the painter's routine and what gives more details to each painting.
Currently Robin Eley enjoys international prestige, after several years of hard work the effort was worth it, his works have been exhibited in Los Angeles, Tokyo, New York, and Australia, all in solo exhibitions and group shows.
In his works we will find men and women wrapped in translucent plastics of different colors, which with the right lighting can give the sensation of a photograph in high or low key, it all depends on the lighting scheme chosen by the painter. In theory it is as if he were composing a photograph only that instead of taking it with a camera what he does is paint what his notes say.
As we can see each painting by Robin Eley, it is as if it were a conceptual photo session where the use of different materials to leave between seeing the artistic nudes is the most common, also prints enough dynamism in the features of the different faces with the intention of impacting the viewer.
This relatively modern way of representing hyperrealism does not cease to be close to the first traces of the hyperrealist painters in the 1920s-1930s when this long journey began and for more than 70 years almost on a par with photography this art seeks a way not to disappear as an ephemeral art that only shows reality through textures.
