Or, would they be born with both parts, only detached? The fuzzy little chick head would be pecking away at dirt, and the cute little chick bodies would be pooping in the water bowl. Everything would be totally normal.

Sounds normal to me. I picture the heads and bodies being in different eggs. One could play build a chicken. It's like a guessing game.
I just woke up, and I just heard the pretty sounding crash of a glass Christmas ball breaking on the floor near the Christmas tree. My first thought was of a two piece chicken breaking out of it's egg. Except with your scenario another ball will have to break. That shouldn't be an issue for the kids.
Looks like I screwed up another Christmas...
Those glass balls are so thin, they are like rules - made to be broken.
