Corona National Forest Watercolor

This image was done primarily in Escape Motions Rebelle 2 with a little help from Adobe Photoshop to help dodge in some of the scene. My inspiration for this painting is based on one of my 3D renders done in 3ds Max. As I am principally a 3d artist who focuses on architecture and environmental scenes this is a focused effort to try a translation from one media to another.

I am finding that it is not always easy to approximate the light and atmospheric qualities of the 3d rendered images.

While my skills are growing I am not sure I feel the watercolor does justice to the light and atmosphere. It is hard to get this with a watercolor. It takes real skill to figure out the balance of water vs pigment. It can easily get muddied. I also found it hard to duplicate the tone of the original scene.

Overall I am still happy with the effort. It takes lots of practice to change media. I guess as they say Rome wasn't built in a day.
