Hello Steemians

Mixed Media is a work of art that embodies more than one medium. It is typically a combination of media which varies in terms of texture, color, material etc. Artists use many objects like shells, paper, cloth, threads, wood and much more to create an artwork.
Here is a list of my personal favorite artist who has worked with mixed media...
1 Pablo Picasso
Spanish Draftsman, Painter, Printmaker, and Sculptor
When talking about art, one cannot skip the name of Pablo Picasso. It would be a crime. He was one of the most creative, and inspirational artists who have ever lived.
Maquette for Guitar (1912)
Maquette for Guitar is an assemblage or three-dimensional collage- a silent instrument resembling no sculpture ever seen before made of pieces of cardboard, paper, string, and wire. (Sources- Britannica)
2 Wik Muniz
Contemporary mixed media artist, sculptor, and a photographer.
Muniz incorporates the use of everyday objects such as sugar, thread, chocolate syrup, jelly, and garbage in his practice to create bold, ironic and often deceiving imagery, gleaned from the pages of pop culture and art history.
In 2008, he undertook a large-scale project in Brazil, photographing trash-pickers as figures from emblematic paintings, such as Jacques-Louis David’s Neoclassical Death of Marat, and then recreating the photographs in large-scale arrangements of trash. The project was documented in the 2010 film Waste Land in an attempt to raise awareness for urban poverty. Muniz explained the work as a “step away from the realm of fine art,” wanting instead to “change the lives of people with the same materials they deal with every day.” (source artsy.net)
3 Ron Mueck
Australian sculptor
Mueck's sculpture responds to the minute details of the human body, playing with scale to produce engrossing visual images (a style known as hyperrealism). Mueck spends a long time, sometimes more than a year, creating each sculpture. His subject matter is deeply private and is often concerned with people’s unspoken thoughts and feelings. A sculpture entitled "Mask II"- I love how there is a perfect amount of balance between realism and surrealism in his sculptures.
"Boy", a 5-meter-tall sculpture
The material used by the artist are resin, fiberglass, silicone and other various materials.
4 Kurt Steger
American, based in New York, NY, United States
He says “My work explores issues of environment, psychology, and ancestry. I create sculptures that appear to have been excavated from a past civilization, and this permits me to portray an alternative view of the contemporary world.” (Source- artsy.com)

5 Mark Bradford
Modernist abstraction
An American artist living and working in Los Angeles.
Mark Bradford is a contemporary African-American artist. Working in a wide-ranging conceptual practice, he is best known for his multimedia abstract paintings whose laborious surfaces hint at the artist’s excavation of emotional and political terrain. (Source: artnet.com)
Helter Skelter I, 2007
6 Lubaina Himid
British contemporary artist and curator.
Himid makes paintings, prints, drawings and installations which celebrate Black creativity and the people of the African diaspora while challenging institutional invisibility. She references the slave industry and its legacies and addresses the hidden and neglected cultural contribution made by real but forgotten people.
Her work is a riot of color, drama and joyfully exuberant works that reveal darker – even dangerous – aspects the more you look

7 Njideka Akunyili Crosby
Nigerian-American mixed media artist
Akunyili Crosby’s paintings of herself, her family, and friends, often relaxing or embracing in their homes and other private spaces, explore cultural hybridity through a welter of references. They contain images of popular Nigerian musicians and beauty queens, ads from fashion magazines, and photographs from family events to situate themes relating to tradition and newness, politics and culture, and urban and rural in buzzing tension (Source- artnet.com)

8 Lee Kyu Hak
Inspired by Van Gogh's distinctive style, Korean artist Kyu-Hak creates the Dutch painter's iconic works by wrapping bits of newspaper and magazines around pieces of Styrofoam to create stunning mixed-media mosaics for a collection he calls "The Monumental Series."
Lee uses pieces of Styrofoam to imitate each of Van Gogh's paint strokes, covering the pieces with colorful strips of newspaper and magazines and re-wrapping them with hanji, a traditional Korean paper. (Source: https://www.amusingplanet.com)
9 Jonathan Benitez
A painter and graphics illustrator who lives and works in the Philippines.
He says- 'My art is multifaceted. I do not stick to a single recognizable style. For me, art is a continuing conversation in visual form, as experiences changes- so goes our stories, as art is a mirror that reflects the way we lived.'

He uses acrylic paints, sand, and other found objects.
10 JR
Recently I came across JR- a French photographer and artist and instantly fell in love with his work.
JR describes himself as a "photograffeur", using photography as his medium and graffiti as his method. His giant monochrome outdoor portraits of local people adorn some of the world's least desirable neighborhoods. JR's gallery works are meticulously composed – dramatic and often exotic photographs of these giant pasted portraits in turn. The work celebrates the timeless indomitability of the human spirit and a rapidly accelerating pan-national culture.

Women are heroes , Morro da Providência favela, Rio de Janeiro
Using the street art form, he wanted to pay tribute to the countless women who are dealing with the effects of war, poverty, violence, and oppression.
