Another Step In My Learning Journey....

Happy Thursday !
I hope all is well your way.
As you may know (or not if it is your first time here) I began a couple of months back to explore and play with Mixed Media art, mostly including collage papers. I have watched multiple artists on youtube and around the net and even though I have seen many, there are many more to see. Some I will go back to so that I can study closer things they've shown. I have been into art before this, but mostly just with paints.
So far, I have just made small pieces of art with various canvases and boards I had around here and I started an art journal to play in. It's a lot more economical for learning and exploring, so I now alternate, doing some there and still some other single pieces. Also so far, I have just randomly made painted collage papers to use with stencils and the such and I have made up the design namby pamby of whatever I did create, for the good and the bad of it. 😅
About a week ago I decided that now that I have played in it a little,(you know, you have to jump into the water before you can learn to swim) I need to focus closer on different areas, in this case, different artist's styles. Although there are no videos that I have found by her, I saw some work of artist Nancy.Bell.Scott. Her work is abstract, like most art that I love and I found her style interesting. I decided to begin with her, even though I have no insite into her process. I am just mimicking what I can see on some of her pieces. I am not making them for sale or for use on other products, the ones I make studies of are just for my personal education. I don't use all the same mediums she does and I am creating them on 5 X 7 canvas boards (so far). Most of her pieces these days are smaller, so the proportions are different.
This was the first piece I made. I have put hers as the last photo on this post. By trying to capture the escense of her piece, it causes me to look very closely at what she has done and I am enjoying finding marks and slivers of colors that haven't jumped out at a glance.
The words nor music have anything to do with her, they are just things I had around here.

What is the worst thing (to me) about this first study is that I was so engrossed in how I could get a similar vibe using my papers, paints and paint pens, I totally forgot to take process photos ! What ??? Horrors !!... but alas, this one where I took a test shot before gluing down the peachy colored strip with the red circles is the only one that exists (I think) that is not the finished version. Drats !... but oh well !

A little further back. On some of my previous practice pieces I thought photos of the pieces from a little distance made them look very different. I don't know about this style though. It may be that you lose too many of the fun details that you can see close up.
I promise I have done better about process photos on the ones I have made since. I don't know how many study pieces I will do using her general designs, but when I decide I've done enough, I'll create something with hints of the style, but totally of my own design.

This is hers.
When I said lots of her pieces were smaller than the 5 X 7s I am working with, it seems a lot of it may be that way because she is in a group called something like "International Mail Artists" (I'll check for the exact name later) and has been for years, where the artists that are part of the group send pieces of art to each other and collaborate with each other for various showings or projects and the such.... from all over the world ! Sounds interesting... well... if you know what you are doing.

As everything has been since I started this journey, the beginning of this study has been very fun. Once I am satisfied with studying this artist, (however long that turns out to be), then I will choose another to learn from.
I think I say it's almost the weekend every week and well... .every week has a weekend it is true, even though some don't feel like it.
I worked over, checked my net world, took a shower and washed my hair already and now this post. No nap this evening 😄 I'm not hungry, but I think I'll cut up a turnip to snack on and get over to the art table for a while.
Until the next one ...
Love ya !

Hi ! and thanks !

A turnip? To snack on? Have you gone crazy? 😀

Yes ! I love turnips, cooked or raw, but you can't always get good ones. Right now, the store I get most of my groceries from has good ones, so I have been buying them during the last month. I mostly cut them up and eat them raw with a little salt, but I like them cooked in some good broth as well.

I'm already crazy, so this is not new. LOL

OMG. You are a filthy mare! :OD

I hate them. Hate them with a passion. Come to Scotland. We have lots and lots of fresh turnips!

ha ha .... I said cooked in some good brother.... what tha heck is that ?? I had to go back and correct that to BROTH !

I've never been called a filthy mare before. Hold on while I add that to the list of things I've been called. LOL !!

If we had good ones all the time, I might not like them anymore.

I thought it might be broth. Otherwise that would be worrying!! 🤣🤣

I know ! It would probably be concerning to my brother as well ! 😆

Aye, he would be having words with you!

Thank you ! 💚
