Is scanning your drawings necessary?

Scanned photos

Next set: Taken with a camera
- These are slightly edited
- Taken in broad daylight/with flash
- Camera being 5 - 10 inches near the drawing
- Added filter (for contrast or hue)
COMPARISON
I made comparison pics and we can tell a few pros and cons here:
- Scanned photo looks brighter and vivid while the camera shot is darker
- Scanned photo is more detailed and camera shot is less defined and the mediums texture cannot be seen
However - The cameras angle complements the 3D effect of the image and adds shadows
- The silver and gold ink reflect to the flash making it more visible and creates a great effect to the space art
scanned image here is brighter and colorful, this was too bright though, I just decreased the brightness and increased the contrast.
Scanned image is more detailed, you can notice the background texture is more defined and the eyes are more real.
Camera shot is darker and less colorful
- The scanned image is more detailed, colorful and the shape changed because of how the image is captured
However - The camera shot looks more realistic because the pencil strokes are less defined
- The scanned image looks more proportional (again because the angle is right)
- Scanned image looks more clear and bright
However - The camera shot's lighting casts a yellowish hue and shadows that help give a distinction to the graphite pencil, the paper and the white ink
- The camera shot also works well with filters on editors unlike the scanned image
Conclusion
Scanning a drawing helps a lot! As much as you can, you should.
It is brighter and more colorful but sometimes it's too bright some details and lines disappear so you can just adjust the brightness and contrast.
However, if you have a good camera that can project your drawing the way you want it, to get a certain effect or what, (just like the Yoshi drawing and the broken woman) then it's good too!
We just got a scanner and I thought of sharing this. I often wondered if a good camera/ phone camera was enough but scanning has a better result and since details are so obvious, it's a challenge to create neat and cleaner art.
Scanning is limited though, some scanners are only A4 to long bond paper sized so it's impossible to scan paintings or big works. So you definitely need a good camera

I feel both have their advantages...but yet neither really show how it is to look at it in person, and this seems to be more true when I use crayons/colored pencils
Yes they do! We got a scanner and still I'm thinking if it was the right choice, perhaps I just have to edit the images a bit to get it right.
They do look nicer.
