THE PROBLEMS of congestion and pollution (pollution) from the land transportation system is indeed a problem that is difficult to find the solution. This is not only the city of Bandung, but other cities in Indonesia, even the cities in the world also have difficulty in efforts to reduce congestion and reduce air pollution levels from motor vehicles. Therefore, transportation system planning should be a priority in the effort to overcome this, especially in minimizing the negative impact on the environment.
Indeed, the impact of the transport sector on the environment needs to be controlled by looking at all aspects of the transportation system, from transportation system planning, transportation model, means, traffic flow patterns, types of vehicle engines and fuel used.
The negative impact of this transportation system problem is the high levels of pollutants due to emissions (discharges) from motor vehicle fumes. This can be a serious threat if left alone, not only for the environment we live in, further this could lead to a decrease in public health status by outbreaks of respiratory diseases caused by air pollution.
