Lady Jessica before her journey to Arrakis
I choose to leave this vector illustration flat with no shading or light sourcing. I think it has a crisp graphic novel aesthetic. I hope it does her justice...
The Spice Must Flow
Frank Herbert's Dune needs no introduction. If you haven't read the series or watched the film, I suggest you get stuck in. There is also a tv series that covers three of the books.
Dune is an incredibly good Science Fiction story and arguably one of the best books ever written. The story takes place in the distant future where humankind has colonized much of the known universe. Computers and thinking machines are illegal as they tend to be a nuisance much like Skynet. Spacing Guild navigators use a substance called the Spice Melange to aid them in space travel. The Spice gives the Guild an almost god like perception of all the possible paths through space and time. The Spice is only found on the planet Arikkis and is secreted by giant sandworms.
In this universe, human society is made of the great houses of the Lansraad, The padishah emperor rules over the great houses. The Bene Gesserit are also very influential and use the Spice to develop super human abilities. You can go on wiki to get the scoop on the Bene Gesserit - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bene_Gesserit
Jessica is the Bene Gesserit concubine to the Duke Leto Atreides of Caladan, and mother to his young son and heir Paul Atreides. Jessica has an enormous role in the story arch and will likely become one of your favorite character.
I don't want to spoil the story for anyone who hasn't read the book or at least seen the film. Most of the books take place on the desert planet Arrikis. I can't even begin to describe the level of complexity and sheer brilliance of this story arc. You just have to get into it :)
The David Lynch film is pretty good and has a bold visual style. I grew up watching this so I have a soft spot for it. It falls short in places but is a pretty entertaining movie. The tv series is not bad in my opinion.
Yeah, that is Sting!
Here is a photo of actress Francesca Annis playing Jessica in the film
I like the Neo Victorian dress
Right, let's see the design process!

I'm very happy with the way she turned out. Hope you think the same.
Thank you very much for reading Steemians! I hope this will inspire people who haven't read Dune to give it a go. Please let me know what you think. I really love getting feedback from the community.
Please upvote and follow me if you enjoyed this one! Take care and see you soon :D
Awesome! And again, you chose another of my all time favourite books. Let me guess, is the next character you'll draw one of the 100 from Red Mars ?
Thanks! Not sure about the next one. Maybe Neuromancer by William Gibson :)
Why not, go for it! Not my favourite writing style but I thoroughly enjoyed the ideas there.
Or, another Neal Stephenson book. Possibly Cryptonomicon. Have you read that?
Good choice again, and yes.
Have you read the Mars Trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson? You should if you haven't, awesome books.
No! I will have to add it to the list. I'm a very slow reader atm. Still on Seveneves.
I've also been told that Night Angel is good...
Interesting plot. I've never heard of it. Thanks
Read the Dune books in my teenage years. Just sat here trying to think who my favourite character is and can't chose one, as I like different ones for different reasons. The book fired my imagination back then and I use to write little stories about the characters. Like what would have happened if Paul had fallen in love with Irulan . Great post and love your illustration of Jessica :)
Thanks very much @kathieletalis glad you think she makes the grade. Did you read the final two books by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson? I listened to the audio books and quite enjoyed the finale.

I read House Atreides, House Harkonnen and House Corrino, but didn't know about the Sandworms one. Will have to add that to my must read list :)
Yeah, Hunters of June takes place after Chapterhouse dune. Sandworms comes after and is the final :)
This is my favorite post for the day for sure!
Thank you for the kind words @stargarden I've got more stuff coming so stay tuned. Im just considering the nect book review.
Nice ! Good Job !
Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed it.
This was a really great post. If I wasn't already a lover of science fiction then you'd turn me into one!
Haha, cool :) What are your fav sci-fi books, films, or series?
