Here is the colored version of last years Guild Wars 2 fanart. I gave her a basic comic style coloring. I used GIMP for this job. I know some of you might be thinking ewww, GIMP... I know it's not as good as Photoshop but it does the job. The name sucks too XD
I'm thinking about upgrading to Manga Studio 5. I see a few artists on Steemit doing amazing work with it. I am more a Vector illustrator but I'd really like to get into Manga Studio. Might take me a week before I'm really comfortable with the program.
Right, let's take a quick look at the design.
I painted a nice simple background with cool magical colors. I used my good old Wacom Intuos graphics tablet to do the coloring.
I gave her nice flat color to start with. I actually love basic flat images. Something very nostalgic about it...
Lastly, I used the Dodge tool to create light and shadow. Now the GIMP Dodge tool isn't quite as good as the Photoshop one but it's not bad. I actually really like the way she turned out. This picture looks a bit like it was done with copic marker pen and not digital :)
There we have it! Hope you liked this updated drawing. If you are a gamer, you should definitely check out Guild Wars 2. It's awesome and you can play the base game for free now. The characters are really detailed and colorful and you can change the colors of your armor with dies. It's super fun and addictive.
