I love looking at things in a different perspective, and I've never been known to take the conventional route. Even though most of my work isn't highly recognized or of a high quality, I like to experiment on new ways to tackle things. Whether it be creating solutions to problems, writing stories with different twists or crafting art using unconventional means.
One day, I was looking for a gift idea for my girlfriend, and I stumbled upon pixel art coasters. I find it amazing whenever art is infused to every day objects. There were tons of possibilities, but all the examples I discovered became easy to do once you get the hang of it. They were all recognizable, and they were definitely fun to look at, but there were already tons of tutorials for them online. I didn't want to give a gift that was readily available to replicate, so I made it difficult for myself.
Mind you, I'm not a very artsy person. I can't create a masterpiece that would sell for millions. I'm just a guy who wants to make something unique. Something that, at the end of the day, I could say that I made from scratch. Sacrificing discernibility for uniqueness, I thought about making hexagonal bead patterns instead.
Here are some of the, what I fondly call, GeekCoasters:
Totoro (from My Neighbor Totoro)
(There weren't any gray beads, so I made do with brown ones)
Baymax (from Big Hero 6)
(I'm not quite sure why I'm enumerating their names, it's either you recognize them or you don't, right?)
The Flash (from DC Comics)
(It was especially difficult to make straight or circular lines because of the hexadecimal pattern arrangement. I wanted to make it challenging, so that's the price I paid)
Minion (from Despicable Me)
(Pwede na? Which is tagalog for "Will this do?" or "Is this alright?" but apparently is Minionese for "Can we start?)
Stormtrooper (from Star Wars)
(I wanted to do the classic one, but it was hella hard)
And, finally. In honor of the recent release of Harry Potter and The Cursed Child, Harry Potter (from J.K. Rowling's mind palace)
Any DIY crafters out there? I would love to hear your thoughts on the pieces and would love to see your own artwork as well. Let's populate Steemit with original artwork!
What a lame conversation starter. Tony Stark should really look into upgrading you.
Thanks, bot!
I haven't really written anything and it's already on par with Tolstoy and David Foster Wallace? Amazing!
