"The Marvel Art of Skottie Young" by Jess Harrold

For as long as I can remember, I have always collected a wide array of things in the world of comics and collectibles: from comics, to figures, to statues, to pops, and a little bit of everything in between! Since joining HIVE, I've known that I wanted to use the platform to share my collection with the community. So I am going to start a little series here, where I will be showcasing a specific part of my collection, which is, as of late, one of my favorite additions to the roster.

"Marvel Comics: The Variant Covers" by John Rhett Thomas

If you don't know comic books, a variant cover is basically a different cover to the same book. Publishers and artists work together to create dozens of special covers for basically every issue nowadays. My favorite variant cover artist is Skottie Young, renowned for his very unique style of art: Marvel Babies. Over the last 10 years, through this distinguishable style, Young's art has completely blown up in the world of comics. In partnership with Sideshow Collectibles, statues have been created depicting the characters presented in his art. These statues look as if they were pulled directly from the page, with vibrant colors and beautiful sculpts.

With more on the way, and plenty already brilliant pieces in my collection, I will be periodically showcasing these statues, starting with today's first pick, and my first acquisition: VENOM

This beautiful statue depicts Young's variant cover for Venom #150, the anniversary issue for the infamous Spider-Man villain.

As you can see in the pictures throughout, the sheer brilliance of bringing the art to life is incredible to say the least. From the cherry red of the lollipop, to the almost lifelike, constricting tongue of Venom himself. I think that the proportions of Young's characters so perfectly translate to 3-D sculpts and always enhances upon the original art as well. There isn't a drop-off in detail or care, as there can often be with other artists styles being used for statues or figures.
