I loaded the kiln yesterday evening. I was experimenting with two different types of glazes, but I could not find any pyrometric cones greater than seven. I thought that seven would be hot enough to melt the special glaze that I added to my mugs.
One came out OK, but the other one came out with blisters. The blisters are a result of the glaze not having a high enough temperature to melt and stick to the clay body. I am going to try to re-fire the mug with another pyrometric cone to see if I can get the glaze to melt.
I have some other objects that I need to fire, so I will have to wait a day until I get them glazed and ready.
There is also the possibility that the mug had some dust on it that got trapped in the glaze. I hope that is not the case, because a second firing will not make the blisters go away. Another lesson learned as I grow with my pottery.
Enjoy your evening.
