Making a cement head plant pot - a great talking point for any house

in #art4 years ago (edited)

Last week in the craft shop we made cement head planters with our customers. This workshop is wonderful for friends to do in a group.

Step 1

Take a polystyrene head, available at many craft or fashion stores. Get the head ready to carve, yep, you read that correctly. Draw a line around the top bit, which will be removed.

Step 2 - cut and carve

Chop off the top and carve out a good chunk of the insides. This is where the plants will live when you have finished, so it does need to be a good depth for soil. I like to leave room for some lose stones at the bottom to help with drainage.

Step 3 - layer on cement

I use a lighter cement so that it can be sculpted easily. First, layer it on then the fun part sculpting it into a shape that works. I like to try and sculpt my friends as I do this.

Step 4 - drying and then planting

Next, allow a day or two for it to fully dry, then select some succulents to plant. Store in a bright area in your house and share with friends :).

I hope you have enjoyed learning about this simple and fun project that I have run in my craft shop.
