The biggest future investment, the salvation of our souls.

in #art8 years ago (edited)

Hello everyone, In these troubling times when we all could use a little extra money and are scrambling about pursuing the next big thing that will help us get ahead in this life, we must not forget that any thing can be lost or taken away from us. And that this existence is just a passing thing, gone so quickly!

As a believer in Jesus Christ, I would not be doing my duty if I didn't remind everyone that there is also much more to invest in, our eternal salvation.

Matthew 6:19-21King James Version (KJV)
19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:
20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

SINNER’S PRAYER

The Sinner's Prayer (also called the Consecration Prayer and Salvation Prayer) is an evangelical Christian term referring to any prayer of repentance, prayed by individuals who feel convicted of the presence of sin in their lives and have the desire to form or renew a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. (referenced from wikipedia)

Saying the sinner's prayer is simply a way of declaring to God that you are relying on Jesus Christ as your Savior. There are no "magical" words that result in salvation. It is only faith in Jesus' death and resurrection that can save us. If you understand that you are a sinner and in need of salvation through Jesus Christ, here is a sinner's prayer you can pray to God: (referenced from Got questions.org)

"God, I know that I am a sinner. I know that I deserve the consequences of my sin. However, I am trusting in Jesus Christ as my Savior. I believe that His death and resurrection provided for my forgiveness. I trust in Jesus and Jesus alone
as my personal Lord and Savior. Thank you Lord, for saving me and forgiving me! Amen!"
(referenced from "One To One Witnessing For Christ... Made Simple") author Moray L.W.H. McGuffie

If you said this prayer and believe it with your heart,"Praise God! Welcome to the family, brother or sister!"
It is important you start reading the Bible and praying every day. You need to begin the life-long process of growing in your faith and developing a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

King James Version (KJV)

Ephesians 2:8-9. 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Mark 1:15, "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”

1 Corinthians 15:1-4, "Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, 2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain. 3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures."

Acts 16:30, "and after he brought them out, he said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31 And they said,
“Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you shall be saved, you and your household."

Romans 10:9-10
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Romans 3:10 proclaims, "As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one."

what if you chose the wrong God?

Thanks for your reply, They way that I came to Christ was through a lot of research on spirituality, in my quest for answers I learned about the origins of many of the faith based belief systems and I would like to state that I am no authority on these subjects, but I did honestly pray for understanding. My conclusion was that there was only one God the creator of Heaven and Earth who later sent his son named Jesus. and that through him we could achieve eternal salvation. There is much proof of Jesus walking the earth and performing miracles. This proof was written by many including non believers as witnesses of his presence here on earth. In my view of things, there is no denying of the presence of evil here with us which is nothing new but there is a forceful movement to remove Christianity and oppose biblical morality from the hearts of people. That to me speaks volumes of the opposing energy behind this movement. To answer your question and to find the answer that might lead you to my conclusion would be to research, learn as much as you can about all religions and their origins, pray with all your heart for discernment and direction and he will show you the way.
One of my favorite bible verses is;
Proverbs 3:5-6King James Version (KJV)
5 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
Peace and God bless.

There are 16,000 religions in the world. You are more likely christian and believe in your monotheistic universe because it has been passed to you by culture. You are not a Muslim, Hindu or Biddhist because of simple luck.

A book is not proof for your God as much as Harry Potter is not proof for magic

I know there's a lot of religions out there, I'm not sure about 16,000 and I tend to agree with you, which is why I think you are a non believer because of your western cultural upbringing, Christianity is a dying belief in this country, it is seen as impractical or desperate to use your words. In my understanding the bible is not proof of God but the word of God, it is made up of a collection of 66 books that took about 1600 years to be written, from the first book to the last and then brought all together, they speak of real places. kings, armies, customs they are more like history books that also mention God's involvement through out, reading about his involvement through these books(the bible) teaches us how he has reacted to many different scenarios, that's the whole point of it! These books also prophecized the coming of Jesus Christ 1000 years before his birth and the way he would die long before that type of execution was even practiced and there are many more examples. The prophecies I find most interesting are the ones we're living in now, prophecies written over 2000 years ago that speak of a falling away from the church, persecution of the church and yes, the beast system taking shape, it speaks of a one world government which is clearly developing now, there's no denying it, The collapse of the world's economies which is also clearly happening if you pay attention to that type of stuff. We, our selves are contributing to it within this steemit platform by encouraging digital currency which ultimately will replace physical money ( the no buy or sell thing you hear so much about unless you have the mark of the beast) there is also no denying that is happening, Not to mention the biggest prophecy of them all, the second coming of Jesus! You strike me as a well read guy, Brother why not give studying the history of the Bible a shot, not with a biased anger filled point of view but an open minded, respectful approach to understand why people put so much faith in its words. Peace

I'm sure the correct God will take that inadvertent error into consideration when you reach the afterlife.

there is evidence that there is a god. rather the only evidence we have is that humans created Gods so they could ease their minds about themselves dying.

That's one opinion but it is one of those things that cannot be proven or disproven. Some people simply don't understand or accept the concept of God on the same level as others. To simplify it the way that you did is erroneous as it disregards the amount of dedication, study and work that people put in towards their respective religions, regardless of what religion or God they follow. In most parts of the world people believe in some sort of higher power to explain the unexplained and guide them through life. No one knows whose religion is the "correct" one so I guess the only plausible way to find out is to die. Now whether we all go to some wonderful place called Heaven when we die I'm not sure; after all, the most beautiful places on earth that fit that description are currently pure Hell.

Extraordinary claims demand extraordinary evidence. Believing something "just because" is not prood but desperation.

Its all fascinating, really, So much information about so many things. I've given myself to the Lord and was filled with the holy spirit, its a feeling I can't describe. I know what I felt! and its proof enough for me. There is no luck in my choice for Christianity every other belief system is available to me now, before I made the choice in my adult life I already had a different religion called science and evolution with no belief in any God and at times sounded just like you in my opposition. We all walk many paths and believe many things, But As For Me And My House We Will Serve the Lord!
Joshua 24:15
