Pinhead from "Hellraiser" w/ iPad Pro and Apple Pencil!

in #art7 years ago

Good day, Steemit family! Still reeling and reflecting from the 4,000 followers milestone. Thinking more about how Steemit has improved my work and helped me grow as an artist. Certainly having a deserving platform that honors my work […and my rights to my work therein], a community that supports it, and friends that continue to navigate me to my long term goals. A couple of those friends are @bryan-imhoff and @artistchristian. Together we started an art commitment exchange. Wednesday nights, we all present a finished piece of art on Discord, or pay the consequence. 25.000 STEEM from the party that showed up empty handed. To date, none of us have had to pay.

I wanted to share this weeks pencil drawing on Pinhead, from one of my favorite horror film, Hellraiser. I fell in love with this Clive Barker film in the 90’s. The imagery of Pinhead and the cenobites was a regular subject of sketches on my highschool notebooks […during class, usually]. The ideas of barbed-wire and hooks emerging from an ornate puzzle box were absolutely terrifying. The way in which adrenaline junkie extremists actively sought out the box and it’s gateway to Hell is such a metaphor for humanity’s inherent weakness of temptation.

As a comic book enthusiast my entire life, I discovered an incredible two part series by Epic Comics facing my beloved Pinhead against Marshall Law […cue the @cryplectibles swooning now]. Awful story, sure. Law goes to Hell and gets in to a fight with Pinhead that lasts all of 22 gruesome pages. That was about all I needed to be happy in the 90’s. I’m sure @customnature remembers this title as well.

For my art exchange, I decided to draw my own version of Pinhead using Procreate, 12.9” iPad Pro and Apple Pencil. I recently downloaded a new set of pencils and brushes for Procreate and wanted to draw something that would keep my interest while I tested the new tools. One day […soon, hopefully] I’ll have all the time in the world to work on comics. Until then, it’ll be inter-weekly art trades and fun horror/monster sketches.

Thanks for reading. For more comics, illustration, photography and the stories behind the work, follow me here @kommienezuspadt!

Awesome Pinhead, I have never seen that crossover, consider me swooned lol. Bad ass cover, thought it was Mignola, had to look this one up (props to Kevin O'Neill for great art). Also props to you, great interpretation of Pinhead, love that background going on. Also also, congrats on the 4000!

this is a great love, albeit a bit of a horror, and you paint it perfectly.

I really like how you managed to impart a clear style to it without compromising the character design we all know and love.

In short, you have such sights to show us.

Incredible artwork! I hope one day I can draw as good as you do.

I love how you make your drawings, I love how you do every detail and how everything is well done. ;)

Aww I love these films ( sampled a lot of voices from it to make music)! I didn't see you were drawing too! And with skills! You have the weapons but indeed to make a good comic takes tooo long :D
Maybe just try with a short one ;) (hehe just saying...)
