Taking a break can be refreshing. Yes, I did actually manage to escape the studio for a while, but more about that later.
I had a great reference for this drawing that was just begging to be committed to paper. I may also even venture to render it in paint. But I'm working working on other things before then.
What I liked about this reference was the play of light across the various muscle groups on the back which is then accentuated by curve. The human figure can position itself in many forms, but find ones that are visually interesting are crucial for engaging figurative works. A good model and good lighting are essential foundations in achieving this outcome. There are good models and then there are potatoes.

I see you pulled it off!!
The muscles, the light, the shadows...everything is so strongly depicted here.
An of course those arms and hands of yours that speak so much!
It's wonderful!! :)
Tip!
Thank you Ruth!
potatoes ___ XD lol,
fantastic job! that is certainly a carot .. xP
welcome back! :)
Cheers @kingyus! Vegetables belong in the pot, not on the easel... unless it is a still life. =)
hehe I like them boiled with a pinch of salt and a drop of olive oil :D ...
I agree with your choice of serving. Delicious! =)
^..^
great figure art. Awesome details
wow really gorgeous value study - looking forward to seeing more of your work (and currently perusing your blog...)
There's more work coming along soon. The next one will be a painting. Watch this space...Thank you @derosnec! =)
I will indeed!
I love the detail!
Great execution and technique to create a beautiful image.
muy buena esta pieza, las proporciones son perfectas!
Gracias @portilloart!
I like the concept, really good job.
WOW, great job Leo! I find a back particularly difficult and I rarely see one painted with such excellence.. like all the rest too, of course.
Was great seeing you in Vienna. Well, Wiener Neustadt I should say. Too bad you had to catch that train.. Karin was still very weak the next day and we didn't do much, except for seeing the kids in the evening. Missed you at Dreamscapes yesterday. Opening was really spectacular!
We couldn't find an easy solution for travelling to Traun and then our return without staying overnight. All in all the time and expense really didn't make sense, especially since we'd only be visitors. Sounds like you had a good time. All the best with the show! =)
I understand. Its always a lot of money for the few hours of the actual event. One reason I haven't gone to the Libellule openings in France for a long time.
We did the trip to Austria, because we could be at the two openings within 2 days. Went home Thursday night, as Karin had to be at her café again Friday morning..
Such is life of the self-employed.
I used to travel here and there all over Europe to visit these shows, as you might recall. But I feel my time is better invested in staying at home and creating more artwork. The artwork speaks better for me as an artist than me trying to be noticed at other people's exhibitions.
truly amazing!!! 😲😲😲
MOAR steem for you!
Thank you thank you @melooo182!
welcome back :) you do love muscles, they are present in many of your work, they are bit of your signature. Good work and very good model.
I think there are divisions in opinion when it comes to figure drawings and
paintings...such as a definite definition of gender. A friend was not at all certain as to whether this is a man or woman.
I absolutely love the movement in the musculature, the flexibility and suppleness in the spine.
A brilliant work.
Welcome back! i'm actually taking a little break too... got to regroup and come back with a wave of inspiring material...
I really like this piece, working on colored paper sets a nice base to work from... the back is definitely the where you shine, by my favorite part is actually her feet under the buttocks, and also the musculature of her upper thigh (on the left). :)
Thank you @ankapolo! You mean you're taking a break from posting but still commenting. =)
There are many interesting forms in this figure. So many that I think I must revisit it in paint.
LOL yeah, trying to at least keep up with what others are up to... commenting is easier than making a post... too much work in the fiat world is not letting me compose a quality post.. :P
Looking forward to your paintings.
I even have to take a break from the commenting otherwise I don't get any painting done. It is a wonder, those people on this platform that seem to do it full time.
The textures are fantastic! I love it!
How long did the model have to hold this pose for you?
I mostly work from photo references. It is easier for everyone. =)
lol good to know. I would be so sore holding a pose like that for longer than 5 minutes!
You pose for life modelling?
lol hell no, I don't have the stamina (or the body) for that! But I am also an artist, so I understand the pains of having someone sit still for you while making sure they're comfortable.
:)
That's why dancers make good models. They stamina, understand what a good pose is and have well defined bodies.
For sure.
But, like you, I mostly use photo references. It's easier than having someone present, you don't have to worry about the model shifting/moving, and, best of all, you don't have to pay someone to sit there!
Great technic... Love your style!
I'm following now... curious for more and upvoted 100%
Cheers!
Thank you @romaan-namoor! Watch this space... more to come. =)
Oh yes, I will!
Cheers
Wow that's a strong looking back!!
It's mostly the lighting.
Ah lights!! Great drawing thought.

Hi @skwth, unending practice. Take a close look at the works of other artists and try similar approaches. Practice more. There are plenty of YouTube videos and books. Practice more. Enrol in courses. Practice more. You'll get there eventually. Practice more.
thank you so much.
