Intro

Hi everyone! I just arrived home after coming home from work. In the middle of the journey (Jakarta) I saw a group of people dancing with the Ondel-ondel dolls by the side of the bus window, yes! It is a genuine dance of the Betawi people. Residents who used to be the majority of the population in this city of Jakarta. Well if on several occasions yesterday I introduce you to the folk stories that exist in various regions in Indonesia, this time I will begin to introduce to you an Indonesian dance that I think is very beautiful.

Peacock dance is one of a variety of new creations dance that express the life of animals, the peacock. Procedures and motion taken from the life of peacock that was lifted to the stage by Sundanese Artist Raden Tjetje Somantri

Description

Peacock is an animal the size of a chicken, its feathers are smooth and the head has a crown like. Peacock life that always develops tail feathers to attract peacock female peoples inspired R. Tjetje Somantri to make this Merak dance. In the show, the characteristic that it is visible from the clothes that the dancer uses has a motif like peacock feather. The fabrics and clothes depict the shape and color of the peacock feathers; blue and / or black green. Plus a pair of wings that depict the wings or tail of a peacock being developed. This dance is usually performed simultaneously, usually three dancers or more, each with a function as a woman and a male. The accompaniment of the drum song is the tiger of Ucul. In certain motion scenes sometimes waditra bonang beaten in a very hard part of the wood until it sounds loud, it is part of the movement of a pair of peacock that was making out. Of the many dances created by Raden Tjetje Somantri, Merak dance may be a famous dance in Indonesia and abroad. No wonder that Balinese artists also, among them Denpasar students created Manawa Rawa dance whose concept and movement is almost similar to Merak dance.
