Trying new watercolors

in #art7 years ago

Hello friends, watercolors can be an obsession. If you are an artis you know what Im talking about. It is like with any other art technique. You want it to be perfect, so you start to search for the best paint brands, best natural brushes, paper types and so on, until you find the best one.

Some people say "the real master does not need expensive equipment to create a masterpiece" . Well, it is true if your technique is not good and you can draw only a stickman, expensive and high quality tools will not help you. That is why you should start a new technique with a student quality tools.

The watercolors I made six months ago were not very good, but I realised it is also because I needed better paper and paints. Until theni tried at leas 5 paint brands and seven paper types, also lots of brushes. I realised it is not always the truth you need the most expensive tools and those people say about they are the best. I still use the cheapest nylon brushes from aliexpress. I have also natural ones, but they are too soft and I am not able to paint with them so nicely. (Maybe I just need more training ;).

I ordered a new watercolors in tubes - Winsor & Newton. They re really good, nice shine colors, strong pigments, but I still love White Nights more.

I made a fast painting with them, but used cheap watercolor paper, so the result is not very nice. In watercolors the paper has the same importance as paints.

Your work is very pretty! I like the simplicity of the sample image in only just a few colors. I am a fellow watercolorist also!

thank you and welcome on Steemit! hope you will like it here :)

It's true what you say, because I use Opaline paper for watercolors because the special role for watercolor is not achieved in my country, if the paper is not good color is opaque and does not run the paint well... I am not an expert in the matter but I also realized that the Brushes also very important, I also think that watercolor needs good materials even if you are very good at painting.

@marty-arts, you are correct that watercolour paints can become an obsession as well as any other type of art related materials. I am new to painting and drawing, and the first time I went out to buy watercolours and paper I bought the lesser expensive items since I was starting out and that I needed to practise. It wasn't even a complete week before I was out buying more supplies of different brands and qualities. I now own a lot of various types of watercolour paints and paper. I relate rather well to your post and agree with you!

Based on your watercolour painted you have decided to share with us you are very talented, and I believe that the art materials used are only as suitable as the artist that is using them. The talent lays within the artist and not the paints. 💙

its hard to work with bad materials particularly when we talk about watercolors :)

thank you, its a lot of work behind it, but I love it.

Pretty cool art.

Nice art frends

Totally agreed. For me the most important tool is the paper. A nice heavy duty watercolor paper is a must. My advice to those just starting out in watercolor, do get this type of paper. And of course a decent brush and a set of student grade paints are essential too :)

I agree! :)

Thank you for sharing this information. I'm a beginner and I still use inexpensive materials. Recently I tried 100% cotton expensive paper and I can say that expensive materials do watercolor work much better. Did you try the paints mijello?

I also remember that feeling when I tried 100% cotton paper. it was so different and I really enjoyed it.
I didnt. Are they good?

Yes! Such paper really helps a lot in the work

Great post @marty-arts! :) I am a material obsessive person!! I just love buying new materials and trying out different types of paints and papers.. Going in to an arts store for me is like going into a candystrore for a kid, haha... I can be in there for hours!

Lovley painting too! <3

its the same for me :D but I mostly buy through e shops, because the nearest art shop is 30 min by car and its a really small and expensive shop, so internet offers more ;)

thank you :)

I like the colours. Beautiful painting.
Thanks for the info.

Agree with you Winsdor and Newton are good, but still White Nights are better. I use only indigo from WN in tube, their pans are more poor quality..
Schminke are something different, great pigments but also not all colors..
Thanks for sharing @marty-arts.
