Self- MS Paint

in #art8 years ago (edited)

I have been super into MS Paint this week

When I was in elementary school, I doodled a lot on MS Paint. Dial up internet, what else was I going to do!
In the past few years, however, I have used MS Paint almost exclusively for school work, annotating/making figures for labs and such.
This week, I decided to go back to my routes. I found that MS Paint has a few more features than it used to. For example, you can select brush style beyond just size of the brush. While this was cool to discover, the most important change from when I was in elementary school is that now, ** you can 'undo' more than once**. These are the only two changes I have noticed on my Paint version but, I heard from a friend that if you have a tablet-style PC, they have a different app called 'Fresh Paint' which has even more features- pretty nifty.

Anyway, I started this week trying to make a more realistic face than I previously had on paint (so since elementary school) Then, I wanted to make something more like younger-me would, so I made a cartoon

Today, I made this, which is by far my favorite of the week. The method was more mixed media than just Paint
I took a profile photo of myself and loaded it into Paint. I then painted over the entire image. I started by putting black lines on feature boundaries. Then, I categorized all parts of my face as dark, medium, or light, in large sections. I selected these portions and colored them, as shown. This took a while! I was nervous about messing with eyeballs, lips or hair, so I put that off. I got rid of the background image and put this Pepto-Bismol color. I thought about ending here and just keeping my human eyes, but alas I decided it looked weird. My friend suggested that I color them in with a pattern rather than the other three colors I used. That's when I ended up using the stain glassish style on my eyes, lips, and hair.
